Yes, that was definitely a killer deal. It definitely brought greatness within reach for many who otherwise would only be able to dream about what $25k speakers could do in their houses/ listening rooms.
But outside of hi-fi nuts the average person would think $13k for speaker is still... nuts.
One of the interesting things is we can say "hey, that $8k amplifier is no better than this $650 amplifier" while then turning around and saying "those $3k speakers are okay, but really you need to get into 5 digits to get something fairly neutral without the need for a lot of DSP." It's all very valid, but again to the outside world it seems a bit off.
