I am selling a pair of Duevel Planets, purchased brand new in early July, 2023, direct from Mutine in Canada, the Duevel North America distributor.

These have limited use and in like new condition. I purchased the up-model, Duevel Enterprise, less than a month later and stored the Planets from then until December when used for a very short time when doing some speaker testing experiments, comparing various Omni, bipole, dipole, and unipole designs (documented in several forum threads—just search my user name)

I have only used the Enterprises since then, the Planets in storage the last 2 years until taking out now for pre-sale testing. The Planets were fine speakers, just a little limited for my needs on SPL capability and low end, solved with the larger Enterprise model. The Enterprises were 2.5 times the price, so they should be the better speaker. The sound is very similar—the Enterprise is just “more” of everything. The Planets are fine speakers and the perfect entry point speaker to see if Omni is for you—clearly it worked for me—quickly bought another pair. This is a chance for someone to get in the Omni game at a substantial savings over buying new.

My price is $800 plus buyer pays shipping. For now, I’m limiting sales to CONUSA. I believe the current price for new is $1400, plus less shipping cost to USA buyers than buying from Canada. These speakers are like new, my best guess of maybe about 50 hours of playing time.

I’ll post some photos and more details soon but wanted to just get the word out as they will likely go to EBay soon if no interest here on the forum.

Attached some photos to show condition.

Awesome

I think there is a niche for omni speakers.

How much analyzing the music we listen to has removed the joy in this hobby.....

Omnis don’t get a lot of love here on the forum. I think that is due to two factors:

1. Theoretical arguments against the Omni dispersion pattern

2. Some folks have not heard them PROPERLY placed in a suitable room.

I did extensive testing of various monopoles, dipoles, bipoles, and Omnis a couple winters ago as documented in the Omni thread, finding that nothing could best the Omnis after location was dialed in, at least in my living room.

If anyone buys these, it will interesting to see if they quickly buy an up-model like I did. I was smitten after the location was dialed in and quickly upgraded mine.

I just sent a PM to Amir asking if any interest in testing these speakers, so if any prospective buyer is willing to have speakers forum tested on way to the new home, I’ll pay that shipping and give a little better deal to the buyer. Assuming Amir wants to test them, of course.

I didn’t realize that the testing location was all the way out on the west coast, making shipping cost very expensive and probably cost prohibitive. This might work if buyer was nearby the test location in the Pacific Northwest, otherwise probably not feasible. I should have verified where they had to go first—my mistake. Only feasible sale may be just shipping directly to the ultimate buyer.

I was able to work with Amir to get greatly discounted shipping rates, so now can offer free shipping to buyer and I’ll pay for shipping to Amir for testing on way to the new home. So now buyer gets free shipping. I suspect most members would be ok with Amir testing first, but that’s the buyers decision to make.

very nice of you. I hope someone takes you up on that. I would love to see that review. Thanks

Well, either nobody will touch them with a 10’ pole after testing or I’ll be flush with prospective buyers. Either way, I suspect the results will spawn some heated debate—Omnis will do that as I’ve learned in the threads participated in.

Some additional photos of the speakers to show pristine condition, an included set of custom covers I had made, and packing details. A second outer box with padding was added to the OEM shipping box, affording another layer of protection for the speakers for extra safety during transport.

As long as they understand that the Klippel measurements would be much less representative of "what you hear" with speakers like this.

Like I said, testing these is sure to generate some differences of opinion on how valid the results translate compared to tests of conventional “box” speakers that have a unipolar radiation pattern.

At the risk of getting skewered here, I’m going to link a few reviews (subjective) of the Planets for those who might not be familiar with them. I suspect many minds here are already made up, pro and con, on Omnis, but I took a leap of faith in trying some, in my case happy with the results. I don’t think there even is a Duevel dealer in the USA, so no pre-purchase audition even possible.

Ok guys, don’t slap me around too hard for putting forth speaker reviews that are purely subjective…

Remember…gentle…might be considered elder abuse if you get too rough…

I find these very interesting but I live in Canada and my room is highly absorptive, both points being rather counter intuitive to this.

I am burdened with curiosity though and hearing omnis is something I need to do at some point.

Actually, a less reflective room is probably better, generally speaking. My living room is a lot more absortive than most and worked much better than other rooms I tried with more reflective surfaces. I tested them in my large kitchen which is very reflective plus too long and narrow, impossible to get speakers far enough away from walls to reduce early reflections enough—the combo of the two did not work at all —I’d be keeping and using there if they did.

IMHO, everyone should try out Omnis at some point. They do soundstsge things no other radiation type will do, at least in my living room. I tested them all—Omnis, unipoles, bipoles, and dipoles. The dipoles came close but could not match the Omnis.

The Planets are sold and off to the new owner. I’m not sure how to mark the ad thread title to sold?
