Snobbery in Hi-Fi. Why are people so stupid and turn their noses up at gear costing much less which is just as good?

What happens to your computer peripherals if they go without power for a few days? For a mechanical watch, that's no problem.
That scenario is less likely to occur in most developed countries. And if I loss power for few days, I think my concern is air conditioning, heat, refrigerator, hot water, washer and dryer first.

But forget about the practicality for a moment, you are talking about some cheap electronic watch that is disposable after 2/3 years vs. a mechanical precision timepiece with a complex movement making it timeless (no pun intended). This is apples vs. oranges.

Err, they both stop.

I guess that you skipped this part:
prioritize torque and comfort over top speed. That is so adorable that you apparently skipped the fact that they are not competing on the same things.
...and I guess you skipped the part where your advertorial took on the performance bikes at their own game. In fact that was the whole thing as stated in the opening stanza:
not all about cruising. Over the years, Harley has produced some seriously fast machines that can hold their own against sportbikes and supercruisers alike.
Adorable and hilarious. 160 mph is, and I quote, "not quite" 249 mph.

Then you move the goalposts.

I don't see a bike that you can only make full use of it by yourself on track days as being interesting to me at all. Except as a exercise in one function over everything else.
And goes without saying only 1 in 10,000 owners can ride them anywhere even close to their performance limits.
But they can put on their fancy racing leathers, go to the garage and sitting on it, close their eyes and pretend they're Josh Herrin, Scott Russell, or Miguel Duhamel
Look at me mommy, I'm fast. LOL

That's true, whereas 1 in 1 riders can take a HD close to or at its performance limit, yelping in frustration at the scraping sounds while doing 30 mph around a mild bend.

Real motorcyclists know this. ;)

Interesting : looks like motorcycles bring out the snobbery more readily than audio in this thread.
;)

(my friend, who wrote for and edited a motorcycle magazine says the clashes over motorcycles are legendary… I guess I’m getting a peek at that here)

Real riders on Harleys be like

Owner tells the tale of Darwin and how everything living adapts in nature and you must adapt your technique to the bike... young Hinnerk instead adapts the bike to his technique :p

Well, so much for a rich people and snobbery hating thread. Looks like we should just rename this thread to cool cars, watches and motorcycles we like.

The moral of the story? Even if it's out of your budget, you can still always admire from afar like I do; no need to have so much hate, lack of self-esteem and envy.

So what? They're not racing anyone, just enjoying the leisurely cruise and not pretending to be someone or something they aren't.
But truth being, the H-D is still the most coveted bike anywhere on the planet. The ricer bike guys only try to make fun because they're so freakin JEALOUS! LOL
Besides, When I want to go fast I had my Ducati or (HD powered) Buell.

I'm a late gen X'er from the East Coast, so I'm not into the stereotypical Harley culture, horseshoe mustache, leather vest, etc. But if you were to take that picture away, the Harley Sportster S is bad ass. And I remember the V-Rod, that was when I fell in love with Harley. And this is coming from a guy who used to ride crotch rockets.

After 60 years riding motorcycles, my 2006 NiteRod remains my all time favorite. ;)

Yeah. The Rods were discontinued rather quickly because they weren't "Harley" enough. Watercooling! Actual power! Blasphemy. :p
:p

Wasn't mainly the water, they're all water cooled now. They just didn't sound HD enough without the 45deg timing-spacing lope, patato, patato, patato. Too bad but a great bike none the less

POS cars have gotten me laid far more than any luxury car I’ve ever owned.
My 68 Chevelle SS 396 was good for that. But even better was my 1968 Metro Meteor (Cadillac Limo Chassis, 472 engine) Hearse with the casket area turned into an adult playground area (remember the very early 1980's) of VCR, TV, excellent for the time, car stereo (cassette but later CD) wet bar, 4 inches of beautifully done covering of high density foam throughout, flowers in the flower vases (a friend of mine's mother designed and implemented it). The inside of the side and back windows sprayed with black tint. The dual zone A?C and 140 amp alternator were nice. (It was basically the same as an ambulance from that era).
And when you pulled into a Lover's Lane, others generally left.
It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, Hurricane Hugo dropped a very large oak tree onto it in Sept. of 1989.

There were/are no goal posts, it is just providing info to those that believe Harleys only go 80 miles an hour at best.
If that doesn't apply to you...
And that not all people have any desire to 249 MPH on a motorcycle.
It's just another niche, some like it and most are agnostic about it (and a few "FUN" Police are against it, particularly if there is more than one person that likes it. That gives the "FUN" Police a target so that they can have "FUN" by taking away someone else's "FUN".)
I don't mind that you and others think 249 MPH is FUN (I think that it only proves that you can physically hang on to it).
But, you have proven the point of the OP's first word:
As a reminder: The first word of the OP's title (thank you for helping me prove the point).
Snobbery, apparently it's everywhere, not just for Hi-Fi.

Different tools for different things, instead of trying to demand that there is only one way and everyone has to use the same tool and do the same thing with it.
Why? Because everyone has different priorities at different times. We are NOT the same (NOT EVEN THE SAME ALL THE TIME).
I have never once thought that I was better than someone because I had a better (to me, for my purposes) piece of gear (Hi-Fi or otherwise).
Although I may have wanted to upgrade my gear to what they have.
I'm not snobbish, nor envious. I just am.
And I just try to be polite, which gets more difficult the more that I hurt from younger things that I did in my life.

Nice advertorial.

A. The first line of that table must contain an error. So the rest of it also comes into question.
B. Saying the HD's top speed of 160 mph can't quite match 249 mph is, how shall I put this, adorable.
C. Pretending the HD is the more flexible ride than the sports bike is side-splitting, when in fact its only power play is the standing start drag race to a slow 60 mph. Try going around a corner. Say, a lap of Silverstone vs the Kwak. Try stopping. I can't stop smiling at the claim that the HD is agile.
I'll have to ask for proof of A. (which is up to you, since you are the one asserting that it is wrong [I thought so, too, as I thought that it was 147 MPH {not that it will make much difference when you hit a tree at that speed}). But this is for the newest model year that the company published.
If I was in the market for one, I would look for proof. Since you assert that I am wrong, it is up to you to prove it. Please do, as I now would also like to know.

I prefer to go back to watches and cars

If I had the money, that is not my choice. But I do believe that you should spend your money on what you like. As should I with my money.
As to the car: If I wanted one in that category, I'd take a Bentley Mulsanne Turbo R.
But this Ford is more my style:

I actually only limit myself to one hobby where I don't put too much of a spending limit on and that's audio. But I do admire nice things like luxury watches and cars with heritage.

You seem to have parked your sense of humour completely. Tender spot!

Again, calling anti-snobbery snobbery is projection. :)
