Snobbery in Hi-Fi. Why are people so stupid and turn their noses up at gear costing much less which is just as good?

I hope with all that space they have more than one child and a maid or two to clean it all.
They have two kinds, no maid, but they do have a dog.

Kind of, but I've also heard the term used for any alternative entryway besides the front main entrance.
Many folks use a side or rear door to keep the front area clean, in the approx 1k sq, 2 bed, 1 bath apartment I grew up in with my folks, we always used the back door, only company actually came to the front and rang the bell.
That is also true.

Then I imagine the Mrs is a stay at home mom. :p
I am not sure. But I can say this, while my neighborhood leans towards the upper middle to higher income scale, there is no shortages of mc mansions here. But they are not as rich as you think, it's definitely not beverly hills zip code. So most families have both parents working.

It's not just for mud, it's also for snow and wet shoes. And if you are Asian or the type of family who don't wear shoes in the house, a mud room is great for removing your shoes, hanging your winter coat, storing wet umbrellas, etc. In most Australian homes, there is no transition between indoors and outdoors. A mud room creates that transition and reminds guests not to bring dirt from the outside into your well-maintained and clean home. I wish I had one, it's always awkward to remind people to remove their shoes when they come to my place. My floor is so clean that you could eat off it, and I want to keep it that way.

Did you hear that whooshing sound, close to your head but a bit higher? That's it. The room wasn't the object of pity, just the mud. :)

Jokes aside, I'm also aware of genkan. We have some tatami in the house, actually. And a long low entry getabako/step thing (which may have a more specific name, but I've forgotten) for shoes. Japanese living fetishes aside, it seems not uncommon (and thus not awkward) for my generation and/or where I live/hang out at least to take off shoes when entering the house/flat. You often see shoes and shoe cupboards outside apartment doors in the stairwell, as people do battle with bodies corporate over that convenience.

Oh, this just came to mind. So here is something for the envious to ponder on.

Our host, Amir, is. . . let's just say he is doing "OK" to put it mildly.

Aside from the $40k AP and a $140k Klippel NFS he owns for testing. He also owns a pair of Revel Salon2, powered by Mark Levison.

So do you think Amir owns his Salon2 and Mark Levison, just so that he can "show off," "to brag" and to "satisfy his ego?"

Does owning such equipment make Amir "snobby?"

I was so bummed but through the lawyer, I was put in touch with the guy who beat me in the auction.

Well, it turned out the winner was a rich guy who basically thought the speakers looked cool, and he ended up placing them in his big home gym so they could provide background music for his workouts.
My friend has a pair of top notch Martin Logan hybrid electrostatics that are aimed at his basement workout space. The sweet spot is when you’re on the treadmill. His wife didn’t want them in the living room.

Life is cruel.

Their living room system is out of sight, literally. It sounds fantastic generally and can achieve spls which induce nervous laughter until it reaches the point of inducing nausea. I’ve never experienced another residential system with that capability.

That is accurate. In the US, typically only high-end homes have a mud room.
All ours have had, and many just country cottages in areas with a lot of farm traditions.

Especially common in areas where everyone skiis in winter, practically a necessity

No, I think he owns such equipment because he's a Harman dealer. Kind of like walking into a tailor shop and all the staff are wearing tailored clothes. Or into a hair salon and everyone has nice hair.

But he did say somewhere that he regretted getting his Levinsons. Something about repair costs?

Watches are not a good comparison or analogy to audio cables. Watches do have accuracy differences ( however minute _ no pun intended) and large differences in durability, features , ergonomics, looks etc. Cables dont really have any of that. Using watches as a comparison just muddies the waters

He is also a dealer for many other brands, he could of gotten JBL.

Regret or no regret, he brought it.

I live in the NE, I have rented many places through Airbnb when we go skiing, I have not once been in a place that have a mud room.

The only homes in the NE with mud rooms are homes 3000sqft or larger and built in 90's or later. That is my experience.

But I believe your experience, as I never stayed a country or farming home.

Haven't we decided that a mudroom can simply be a second entrance, with just room for a Mat?

A mud room does not have to be a second entrance. I have seen some homes with one front entrance, and it has a mud room.

This is what I know a typical mud room to be in the Northeast US:
  • A front entrance. Typically separate from the main front entrance.
  • Once you get pass the entry door, there is a room, typically small, usually anywhere from 25sqft to 70sqft in size.
  • Such room has a bench, cubbies for shoes and hooks for coats.
In most cases, at least in the Northeast of the US, I've only seen homes that are 3k sqft or larger, build in 90's-ish or later to have such mud room. There are older homes that have been outfitted with a mudroom.

My 1999 built, 2,400 sqft home does not have a mud room. Alas, I am not rich enough to be snobby. :D

EDIT: For those outside of the US, here are some examples of mud rooms in the US. No it is not for homes around areas with mud.

Since we are on the topic of homes now, I am a sucker for high vaulted ceiling family and living rooms.

These are quintessential modern American homes.

I assumed part of an exit/retirement thing and/or a good insider price. And not just repair cost but inconvenience of bulk/mass (at least it would be for me).

Or a mud room is whatever Pristine says it is. As long as it’s not … muddy.o_O
