Snobbery in Hi-Fi. Why are people so stupid and turn their noses up at gear costing much less which is just as good?

I came across many people in my life who feels this way. If I can't have it, no one should.
Many people feel this way about the one they supposedly love. Then kill them
Wouldn't a kitten have worked better?
Animals were not the subject. Vehicles were.
My Springer Spaniel's worked well as hunting animals but also worked as a girl attractant, so you never know.
But women that think animals are "so cute" that they wouldn't butcher a squirrel for squirrel soup, no one I know would be interested in them.
Kittens are useful, though (also, they grow up to be mousers, a big +):

As for me, kittens and cats (as well as damn near every other animal) seem to like me. The feline is not mutual. I prefer bigger cats:

The women around here (this women is known to her grand kids as "Grandma, the Gator killer" because she saved one of them from an eight foot alligator) raise pit bulls (and believe that a snake on the gate keeps company down):

The fact that it attracted women had nothing to do with why I bought it. I did not know that it would attract women at the time.
Apparently the same thing that attracts some of them to horror movies attracts some of them to hearses.
I did know that I needed a car at the time and that a funeral home that had bought new hearses, was selling an old hearse for $800.
And I had $800 and bought the car.
Also, by flipping the rollers over, there were tiedowns for a gurney. And there were 2 fold out seats facing each other, so it could also have been used as an ambulance. If the body were some color other than a super dark green that looked like black until you were 3 feet away.

I love Pit's they're awesome loyal dogs, great family protection.
Last dog I had was Max, my 27" 125lb Doberman, best dog I ever owned.
My neighborhood could be a little scary, but I never worried for my HiFi or other things while gone. ;)
Wish I had some better pic's of him. I had to put him down from cancer around 1984 or 5.

And, unfortunately, some who feel that way about whoever they last went out with. So they kill them.
It's a strange, bizzare mental problem.
I don't know for sure but maybe better availability of mental health care would help?
It seems that would be better for all involved (IF it did not make things even worse).

My mother had to put her's down a while back.
He was originally given to my father by one of "Grandma the Gator Killers" grand children (who was 12 at the time) as an Alzheimer's companion dog.
They were visiting my parents and the young man offered him to my parents. GGK asked "are you sure?" And the young man said: "I think Mr. Heins needs him more than I do, I'll pick another one out of the next litter we have." And that was a sealed deal. Popeye was a faithful companion for my dad until he passed and then to my mother until cancer got Popeye. I was the one that took him to be put down. We got a pair of paw prints, one for my mother and one for the now adult man that gave him to our family.

I think that "Snobbery in HiFi" does not necessarily come FROM HiFi.
You're right. Either there's a market with the right people—or there isn't.

I liked the AI summary tbh.

In fact it's the only posts of that member I've actually appreciated.
You're right. At least they are not influenced by superlative reviews or at least understand them or make whimsical as we often do. This is why I don't understand why people are defending higher price gear when there's no need to justify it. Why join ASR in the first place. The gear is tested and measured and it presents us with scientific evidence, but people are still saying yeah but what about the things it can't measure, or I love having this or that and dont mind spending the money for 'quality', well that's irrelevant and everyone's hearing is different anyway. We can measure and find out if it qualifies as high fidelity and flat, everything else is BS (Bad Science or the other BS) and subjective even down to the case and how it looks.

At least that AI summary was more intelligent than most on here and doesn't keep referring to cars or continuously posting photos of them. Unlike this thread it stayed on topic. The car analogy is often used at it just relates easily to most things. Funny enough I'm reading a book on brain science and the car analogy is in there, it's just used everywhere because its so easily relatable. But again boys and toys, and badge influenced, if it's not a shiny hifi box, let's drool over overpriced and often over engineered cars. And not mentioning one German manufacturer. Everything with their brand is great until it actually goes wrong then you have to fix it. I'll be happy when cars are AI, it'll save us all from ownership, cluttering our streets and drives, and will be a more efficient, cleaner and more effective way to travel. But enough about friggin cars!

An off topic post about how AI is better than humans because humans create too many off topic posts.

The amount of gaslighting and thread derailment in this thread is astounding.

You obviously touched a nerve lol.

No it isn't. (An off topic post)

In fact it's absolutely "on-topic" and is the footprint for how this site sets itself.

1) post opinion.
2) challenge opinion
3) counter challenge
4) Proofs
4) Debate

Which bit of having to resort to AI to cut through the deliberate and excessive off topic railroading is troubling you?

The mods could have done better in regulating the thread though.

We all know that AI is prone to hallucinations, but then wonder where it learned that .

Because we (most of us, I think) look at what measures great and then look at which ones will ALSO look great with our décor.
Of course, there are a few that don't give a damn what it looks like (and that is fine).
But many of us (even if we do not personally give a damn what it looks like), have spouses, children and friends that we don't want commenting "that looks like hell, why did you buy THAT?" every time they see it. (Unless, of course it is placed in such a manner as to be hidden from view.
And others of us just want good or great measurements as well as what looks good to us. And then depending on the gear, functionality, ergonomics and longevity may also come into play.
There are many criteria left for many of us to decide on once it has been established that it measures well.
As we then have a choice of which secondary characteristics will work for us (and sometimes [maybe many times]) the ones that we thought looked, functioned and have a reputation for longevity, do not measure well.
Then it's back to finding one that measures well AND meets our other requirements.

I was unaware that I am REQUIRED to read each and every post whether it interests me or not.
If that is the case: I would surely be cited for breaking the rules thousands of times.
Since I have not been reprimanded for not doing that, I think that it is OK to skip ones that don't interest me.
I find it liberating to do so.
