Snake Oil Department, Top This

I used a chinagraph pencil to mark all the 'kill spots' on the baddies in Doom, but the screen turned into solid, opaque chinagraph for some reason.

I mean, other than the fact that the owl has a head and the IgG... well... doesn't.
It's got the wingspread though! :)

Yeah I got that.

I’m not sure if the eye charts were to show that the data was the same.
But any noise jiggling the ground or power rails would be removed with the balans.

It does look like the very same shape, doesn't it? The (as far as we know) highest developed pattern recognition system on this planet aka human brain does indeed do wonderous things. It's so capable, it sees patterns even where there aren't any.

To stay vaguely on topic: Just like it misleads people into believing in snake oil, as a side effect. Quacks and charlatans and con artists of all times are notoriously good at exploiting it. Lay down a few key indicators: confidence, seeming authority and competence, carefully weighed technobabble, et voilà, the highly gullible average mind falls for it all because the whole pattern just clicks.
 
^Interesting example of pareidolia and how the patterns people may see depend heavily on what they have studied and/or seen on a regular basis
 
In all seriousness, in my UG days I saw L. Mario Amzel, of the Biophysics Dep't at the JHU Med School (where my wife was for a while in her fledgling career, BTW) give a seminar on IgG structure (he reported early and perhaps the first crystallographic structural data for an IgG). He memorably described its shape as resembling a seagull*.

He didn't mention owls, but I am definitely gettin' a snakeowl vibe after seein' @Ropeburn's image! ;)

* this pings one of Mrs. H's serious birder pet peeves. The term of art for such birds is gull. There is no seagull. If there were, the birders chide, then we'd have to call such birds when seen over a tidal estuary (e.g., the Chesapeake) a baygull. :D
