I've been using a Sony BPD-BX57 Blu-Ray player as my source for playing audio discs for five years. It's capable of playing CDs, SACDs, DVD-A (but just the DVD layer, no big loss) and Blu-Ray audio discs. I connect it to a Topping E30 DAC hooked via optical Toslink. This means I can play everything but Blu-Ray audio via the E30. The BDP-BX57 can play Blu-Ray audio via the analog outs but I've only got three Blu-Ray discs, so I really don't bother with that. I have to look at a menu for DVD-A discs, so I usually don't bother with that. SACDs - even single layer SACDs - all play through the E30 without any fuss. The player cost me $8 used at a thrift store. The remote was $10, it's a clone but works fine. We've got another BDP-BX57 in the living room for playing video discs, cost something like $20 + $10 for the remote. Ebay is still selling these players at very reasonable prices.
My issues are that the mechanism is audible at my very close listening position. That depends on the disc being played - some make more noise than others. The player has a display for track # and track duration; however, it only works right with CDs. And ever since I signed up with Tidal, I find myself using the player a lot less. However, I've got 1600 audio discs including 85 SACDs and I'm still accumulating them. It would probably be a cost-effective choice for people looking for a used CD player. Ebay currently lists 58 of these ranging from $16 to a very optimistic $85, most are around $30 to $40, and a lot come with remotes. If you've got an AVR you can hook it up via HDMI and have the option of 5.1 surround, otherwise you've got the options of optical or coax for digital outs and a stereo pair for analog out. Not to get too subjective here, but I found I like the sound coming from the E30 to the analog out of the player. In any case, it's a cost-effective option for those with different types of audio media.
