My current office sound setup is SMS SU-X + 3E Audio A7 Stereo + 2x Monitor Audio Bronze 2, taking its signal from JRiver Media Center 35 (with mostly FLAC 44.1khz 16bit files). I personally suffer from insufficient low tones, and I cannot get the matching sound via JRiver's EQ nor its plugins (even more - plugins make the bass highly distorted).

I was thinking of adding a subwoofer to this config but I'm not experienced enough to imagine how can I do so. Of course A7 doesn't have the sub input, so most likely I'd get another mono unit (e.g. A5), but how could I connect it to SU-X?

Or I am talking a total nonsense? :)

The vast majority of subwoofers nowadays comes with a built-in Amp, so purchasing one separately is not necessary.

The easiest way to connect one to your system is to plug it directly into the SU-X's RCA Line out.

The SU-X can output via XLR and RCA simultaneously.

You can then use the Crossover knob on the rear of the Sub to match the bookshelf speakers' inherent bass roll-off, and the Level knob to adjust the relative balance of Sub and Mains.

Once that's adjusted, leave the knobs where they are and control volume using the SU-X or the source device feeding the SU-X.

At that point, you should no longer adjust volume on the 3E A7, as that will affect only the bookshelf speakers.

Gotcha, thank you! So you're saying I need an active sub. Since SU-X has no single sub output, but L & R ones, I suppose the connection should be made with the L one, is that right?

Connect both L and R to the sub.

Any advice on SVS SB-1000 vs. Klipsch RP-1000SW vs. Monitor Audio Vestra W10 (the last one just for my appreciation of the Monitor Audio pair :) ).

All of these are now available around EUR 500.

Almost certainly the SB-1000.
