I just picked up one of these and it's coming in the mail, but I'm trying to find out if I can set this thing to UAC1 mode with software? It's not required for my usage but it would be a nice bonus. Thanks everyone.

Edit I forgot to add, there is an XMOS XU-316 driver, maybe I can set UAC1 mode using that?

Hi @XacTactX! Welcome to ASR.

Sadly, the SU-1 does not have a UAC1 mode.

If that'd be useful, then have a look at the D12 or PS200.

No, you cannot switch the SU-1 to UAC1 mode.
The SMSL DACs PS200 and PS200 Pro can be switched and have a switch for this purpose.

Alternatively, there is the SMSL PO100 Pro, a USB DDC, which can also be switched to UAC1. If there are any grounding issues, this is actually the best solution, as the optical connection provides complete isolation.

The replacement I received after my first unit failed has also stopped working. It's the same issue as before, and I'm not sure why this is happening.

I'm about to buy the SMSL SU-1 to connect the optical TV output to a vintage amplifier. The question is if I can power the DAC with a 20W smartphone charger"

It takes very little power. I’m using mine on a Samsung tv, using the optical out and being powered by one of the Samsung usb-a ports.

I am powering mine with a 10+ year old iphone charger, probably like 10w max.

Time for SU-2 !

Hi good morning to everyone
Very nice new product indeed
I am a happy user of the su 1 listening with headphones
I wonder if anyone has had the opportunity to test it on a quite revealing system and what the outcome especially in terms of soundstage
Have a nice day

This is actually a device many purists have been waiting for, ideal for upgrading a conventional hi-fi system.
For under €100, with a balanced output, AES input, and integrated power supply, it's unbeatable.

The USB functionality can be easily and affordably upgraded with the PO100, PO100 Pro, PO100 AK, or even the Douk Audio U2 Pro.
For €140-170, you get a balanced USB DAC with galvanic isolation. That's unbeatable, too.

However, many buyers purchased the SU-1 specifically because of the AK4493 DAC chip.

As a manufacturer, I would release the same devices again with the AK4493/97 and the ROHM BD34352EKV chips and thus dominate the budget market. These would likely be a few euros more expensive.
I'd also offer bundle packages with an inexpensive DDC and a suitable Toslink cable.
