SMSL PO100

Hi all,

Can any of these units do AC3/DTS passthrough? If not, any idea of a USB to SPDIF converter that can?

Hi all,

No, But he did test an Amazon basics HDMI Extractor that when test output to coax was flawless. What are you trying to do?

I wanted to get 7.1 or 5.1 digitally from the PC to my preamp. Either as discrete SPDIF channels or as muxed in a single SPDIF. I do have a Lindy HDMI extractor and will try that to start with.

Do you think PO100 can be used along with a Raspberry Pi that is just working as a streamer? That is; Roopie> Pi (USB output) > PO100 (input USB-C ) > Toslink > Dac

That's how I used it.

Anybody know if it can pass through PCM 5.1 or 7.1 over optical?

Got a PO100 Pro just to learn that it doesn’t allow volume control on Mac.

The original PO100 is no longer available. The Doukaudio U2 is sold for the same price as PO100 Pro and looks like a downgrade. Not that I need the extra features of PO100 Pro, but I don’t want to buy a micro-usb device in 2023 unless there are no other options.

Any other alternatives that have usb-c input and volume control?

Just found firmware for PO100 but not sure should it be applied to PO100 Pro or not. So, I'm checking this forum, and it seems that the firmware is only for PO100.

Regarding volume control on Mac, for PO100 Pro, if you switch to UAC1 mode, you could control the volume. If you switch to UAC2 mode, the volume control is gone.

Thanks, I feel stupid but apparently when trying before I didn't reset the power and it didn't work. Switching to UAC1 solves my issue with Mac volume control!

I stand corrected: the volume control in UAC1 mode becomes active, but it doesn't change the volume and it remains at the same level as with UAC2.

I see. I did not test the volume output on mac. I mainly use it with raspberry pi without changing volume.

FWIW, the original PO100 had working UAC2 hardware volume control in Linux, macOS, Windows, UAPP etc.

The firmware update available on SMSL's website sadly removed this functionality, making it fixed volume on macOS, iOS, iPadOS.

Afaik, it's not possible to revert since the launch firmware is not available anywhere.

@SMSL-Mandy
Please publish the PO100's launch firmware on your website, or patch UAC2 hardware volume back in via FW update.

It's a useful feature to have.

Can this thing be used to convert optical to coaxial?
No.

But you can find tons of generic $10 converters that'll do the job:
