There is a lot of charm to having a device that measures so well. However, for transports I too lean towards lower prices.

I like low prices on great gear (I do not believe in "cheap", as I believe that you will likely get exactly what you did not pay for [or less] either with the lack of performance, the lack of longevity, the lack of service and serviceability or all of the previous together).
This is a lot more performant AND a lot less expensive than:
most of them at any price.
So, I feel it's worth it (and then some).

Apart from the presumed irony which I think is not so good in your post, actually i appreciate the feature. Not only in a desktop environment you can see the cd playing, which might be nice, but over the years mechanism of cd drawer is number 1 failure in cd player. Remove this part increase robustness. Many high end example also taking this approach
