1st, I'm just a novice - my comments are more subjective than scientific, but this website and subsequent forums have helped my audio obsession to date. Yesterday, I installed my SMSL M200 which replaces my old Schitt Bifrost w/ recently installed AK 4490 card and RCA connections. Reasoning: gaining more desk space, XLR output, remote, and Bluetooth. So far, the DAC has been excellent. Foobar2000 had no problem detecting it, unlike the Bifrost, which had frequent issues with detection. The various digital filter modes were interesting at best - the FL1 - FL6 filters seemed to affect the most noticeable changes in sound. Whereas, the "sound color" filters had little (if any) noticeable effect. I utilize a near-field setup with older Emotiva Airmotiv 4s. The functions of both the knob and remote were easy to learn and worked well with a little practice and patience. DAC body is well machined and as other people have noted, the remote is a little cheapish, but functional. I played a few FLAC song lists and was impressed overall with the transparency of the DAC functions.
Great stuff all around!!?
Now I wait for the Topping L30 to arrive to replace the old Schitt Lyr tube head amp.
Cheers!
