SMSL H400

I would recommend a two frames with 200W but maybe they are not enough ...

When will the SMSL H400 be available?
I wonder what the price is?:p

15 Watts? My RME can do "only" 1,5 Watts and drove each hp to more than satisfying levels. Seems like a solution for a not existing problem (YMMV).
I think its for those low impedance low sensitivity planars that need crazy power like Susvara and HE6.

Susvara needs 25mW to reach 94dB SPL.
HE6se needs 29mW to reach 94 dB SPL.
HE6 needs 31mW to reach 94dB SPL.

Power requirements are blown out of proportion by people with barely functioning hearing, and those that can't figure out how to send 0dBFS Peak to their DAC.

I own the He6SE V2 and applied oratory1990's profile. With a few songs I get my Topping A30 Pro to shut down when I want the best dynamics. I can also use these headphones as decent neckspeakers as stupid as that is as a solution.

Yep, I have a Topping A70 Pro and E70 9028Pro in 5v mode, on the He6se I'm at -17db in high gain before applying the -6.9db preamp reduction that profile calls for. Put on "Tonight Tonight, Tonight" extended version by Genesis and try to get the most quiet parts of it loud enough. That's test to find out how much (or little) power you really have. The profile Amir made here is better though for spatial qualities. My whole goal is to try staying in low or med gain (depending on the amp) while having enough headroom for a preamp reduction and pre-volume war recordings.
I'll check with my contacts and see if I can get one of these for reviews and compare to the A70 Pro. I have an H300 and the bottom of it gets so hot it'll singe your finger tips if you try to pick it up after using it. I'll get the laser thermometer out for this one if I can get it. The A70 Pro is so cool by comparison.

I'm in contact with several tier 1 distributors. Judy at Aoshida-US just told me they'll have the H400 listed in 2 days at Amazon and it'll ship initially from their warehouse in China. They usually use the Amazon shipment network, so later they'll be in local Amazon warehouses. Check Amazon maybe Saturday for their listing. AliExpress has one but no availability yet, most likely they'll be setup there to take orders too.

The summer sale is coming the 17th where the $80 off coupons will be restocked and it will apply to the SMSL H400 plus coins and any cash back on a credit card. I'd also recommend using one that doubles the warranty if possible. A lot of sellers have them for $510 now, but see below:

When the sale starts, the big coupon will be available, worth it to wait a couple of days. I'm going to grab one to compare to the A70Pro I use currently. I have the SMSL H300 also, and what looks promising with this is the standby mode. The H300 doesn't have one, but they're both rated as power consumption >50 watts. The H300 gets hot on the bottom and needs a slotted monitor riser to keep it cool enough. With the H400 showing a standby mode and .5 watts, it looks really promising. Even with the He6se on the A70Pro in high gain it doesn't even get warm. Hoping the thermals will be as good on the H400. Anyway, hang in there a couple of days for big savings!

What I don't like is that the SMSL H400 does not have the same dimensions as the Topping A70Pro (W x D x H):
- SMSL H400: 254 x 189 x 46 mm
- Topping A70Pro: 222 x 176 x 48 mm
So the SMSL is 32 mm wider.
Edit: typos

I was thinking of picking up a Benchmark, think I will go for this instead.

Lol. You dont like a product of brand X has different dimensions of a product of brand Y? How dare they

I got the h400 and used it briefly. h400 doesn't seem to have a "standby mode".It was warm even when no headphones were connected and no songs were playing.

I was hoping the standby spec showing .5mw would mean when not in use it wouldn't be going full power. Anything in the menu for power management or standby mode? Strange that they put such a low power consumption for standby mode in the literature.

Do you know how many volume steps it has?
