SMSL DO100 PRO - HDMI ARC DAC

The DO100 PRO has a display design that looks angled

SMSL-DO200-Pro-review-3.jpg

The SMSL DO200 Pro uses the same design as the DO400 and as the AO300: the front side is made with a single, thick piece of metal which creates a curve on the left hand side to make the colour LCD screen appear like it’s floating off the rest of the chassis.

The DO100PRO does not have an LCD. It uses a 7-segment LED display as far as I've seen. There may be a mask between the 7-segment LEDs and the glass in order to hide the PCB that carries the LED digits.

the display appears to be defective(?) Has anyone seen something similar? It looks misaligned, and if you look from the side it becomes hard to read de characters. Does not affect any functionality but is very ugly, very annoying visually. Is it possible to fix?

I was remarking on the design of the display, which IS angled, not the components. Forgive me.

If the DO100 Pro is powered on, is the display on permanently? Or any setting for the display to go to sleep?

Mine used to display the sample rate constantly, now it goes blank after a second or two. I changed it with a menu tree with the remote but I don't know where I found it. When you change the volume, it shows volume percentage, then the sample rate then goes blank.

Can you check one more thing for me? If you change inputs, does the screen also go back to sleep shortly afterwards?

With SMSL products you hold the FN button to change auto on/off for the display

Hello guys! My first message here. Just got my DO100PRO, everything is fine on audio but... the display appears to be defective(?) Has anyone seen something similar? It looks misaligned, and if you look from the side it becomes hard to read de characters. Does not affect any functionality but is very ugly, very annoying visually. Is it possible to fix? It was ordered in Canada and my sister brought to me in the box to Brazil. So I can't return it.

any help is appreciated

cheers
I'm pretty sure the screen is broken. It shouldn't be in this state.

This looks like some misalignment horizontally indeed.
I do not own the DO100PRO (got another D-6s shipped a few days before the DO100PRO was online, otherwise I would have given it a try. From what I saw from PCB photos I'd expect the performance might even exceed the D-6s; nothing audible t.m.h.o. though), but as far as I saw the case is similar to the DO300EX and the DO400. Both of them were really easy to open, you just need the correct hex-nut (2mm, 4 screws on the buttom and 3 screws at the rear for the DO400; the DO100 might have only 2 screws at the rear). Then you can slide the top cover towards the rear and take it off. No need to remove the knob like for the D-6s.
Maybe you can locate and fix the misalignment.
I opened the dac but was unable to remove the display board (I took the photo before remove the last 2 screws), it's somewhat locked in the front panel and I didn't want to force it. I'm almost sure it is a "mask" misalignment. Its not broken, there is a pattern on the digits they all look the same. I contacted Aoshida and will wait for a return... maybe they can send me a new board.

Well thank you all for the replies... I'll let you know if I managed to solve this issue.

Using FL2 filter with Roon source to RoPieee and DSD256 upscale / Precise, linear phase filter / 5th order CLANS I have achieved a better sound to my ears than the SU-1 or D10s in the same signal chain.

SMSL's labeling of the filters is probably incorrect. FL1 probably is ESS #8 and FL2 - FL7 probably are ESS #1 - #6. This is evident from comparing the DO100 Pro manual with the ES9039Q2M data sheet. I explain it in this thread.

I bought a DO100 Pro to drive 2.1 studio monitors. My set up includes;
  1. Wiim Pro Plus (Youtube Music via Chromecast input and Toslink output)
  2. DO100 Pro (Toslink input and XLR output)
  3. Kali WS6.2 subwoofer (XLR input and XLR output with low cut filter applied)
  4. Kali IN8 V2 studio monitors for left and right channel (XLR input)
  5. Furman SS-6B-Pro power strip to power everything
  6. IsoAcoustic ISO200-Sub and ISO200 as speaker isolation
Here are my reasons to build this system;
  • Kali WS6.2 has a built in low cut filter output option, it offloads low frequency duty from Kali IN8 V2's and eliminates low cut filter DSP requirement from either DAC or streamer.
  • Kali WS6.2 is small enough for living room and does not vibrate because of opposite facing drivers.
  • I went with Kali speakers to match timbre.
  • Choose DO100 Pro because it has dual DAC chips - Dual ES9039Q2M have four channels in total while single ES9039Pro has eight channels. Dual Q2M is about half the price of Pro (SMSL SU-9 is about $415). I believe dual ES9039Q2M good value. I considered Topping D50 III but chose DO100 Pro because of ARC. Topping D50 III has an output voltage toggle switch which is more appropritate to drive typical pro audio equipment. DO200 Pro has the toggle switch but I don't know if I would like 12 CS43198 DAC chips can do better than dual ES9039Q2M at twice the price of DO100 Pro.
  • In order to avoid ground loop, humming, EMI,
    • WiFi instead of ethernet connection for Wiim Pro Plus
    • Toslink between. Wiim Pro Plus and DO100 Pro
    • All analog signal chains are balanced via XLR cables
    • A single power conditioner / strip to power everything to share a common ground
For installation, I put Kali IN8 V2 upside down on top of ISO200 on monitor stands with rubber feet - isolate vibration and put MF/HF coaxial drivers at listening height. Height of speaker stand is 28 inch but with ISO200, it gains another 3.5 inch so 31 inch is combined height for the monitor speaker. It is bit too high. By inverting the speaker, it lowers the mid and tweeter. I tried both upright and inverted origentations. I prefer the inverted.

For room correction, for now, I do not apply any GEQ / PEQ on Wiim Pro Plus. IKMultimedia's ARC4 studio seems to be a robust and simple solution at a cost. But, I don't feel I need such.

Attaches are some pictures FYI.
Hi, I am considering update to similar setup as yours, thanks for sharing as understand also possible use Wiim Pro also instead Pro Plus, yes?

WiiM Pro is identical to Wiim Pro Plus except ADC and DAC. So, as long as you do not plan to use line in and out, there is no difference. Since I feed DO100 Pro at fixed volume (100%) via toslink, I don't need a remote control on WiiM as WiiM Home App can do everything else.

I read your other thread that was linked. Thanks for the detailed explanation of the mismatched filter implementation versus the provided documentation.

Am I correct in assuming that 99 volume is the 5.2v output, and it would need to be lowered to get 4v output?

Anyone know if when using a USB stick with audio files and connected to TV using HDMI does the music file directory on the the USB stick get displayed in the TV?

You can plug a USB stick with music into the TV directly.

How its contents are displayed on the TV, depends on the TV model and software.

You cannot connect a USB stick to the SMSL DO100 Pro.

The DO100 Pro also cannot display anything on your TV.
Its HDMI port is purely an audio input.
