SMSL DO100 Pro Advertises DSD512 and 384 kHz — But No ASIO Driver Exists

I’m getting near retirement now, but I spent about 20 years in QA before switching to financial services for my last five. So I’m pretty comfortable digging into Windows drivers, USB descriptors, and registry behavior.

To answer the question: in my testing, JRiver in WASAPI mode isn’t doing anything the DO100 Pro can’t also handle in foobar. After adding the SACD ISO plugin in foobar, both players produced essentially the same results — same formats, same rates, and no audible differences. From a playback‑quality standpoint, they’re equivalent.

What was surprising is how non‑obvious the correct settings are. It took quite a few AI troubleshooting sessions and a lot of trial‑and‑error before everything finally lined up. Once configured properly, WASAPI delivers full high‑rate PCM and proper DSD→PCM conversion without any issues.

My only lingering frustration is the ASIO situation. SMSL bundles an installer that looks like it includes ASIO, but the DO100 Pro never exposes an ASIO endpoint to Windows, so the driver never activates. There’s no documentation explaining this, and I haven’t received any response from SMSL. That lack of clarity is disappointing, especially in an industry where features sometimes just “disappear” without explanation.

That said, WASAPI works perfectly with this DAC, and both JRiver and foobar achieve the same high‑quality playback. So even though I’d prefer SMSL to be more transparent, I’m fine running WASAPI and moving on — just don’t expect ASIO with the DO100 Pro.

Do these DACs on Linux - I assume only UAC2 is available?

Offer in reality the same resolution / bit depth / frequencies compatibility that they advertise for the other OSs supported?
 
Mint and Zorin both worked out‑of‑the‑box with the DO100 Pro using the default UAC2 stack — no tweaks, no drivers, nothing extra. So yes, on Linux you get the same resolution, bit‑depth, and sample‑rate compatibility that the DAC advertises for Windows and macOS. In practice, Linux actually made this DAC easier to deal with because there’s no driver ambiguity and no ASIO expectations to worry about.

This whole experience has honestly made me re‑evaluate my long‑standing reliance on Windows. With this DAC, Linux “just worked,” while Windows required a lot of detective work and several AI troubleshooting sessions to get the optimal configuration. Once everything was set correctly, WASAPI performs perfectly — but the path to get there was far from obvious.

So yes — on Linux, UAC2 gives you everything the DO100 Pro is capable of, and in some ways it’s a smoother and more predictable experience than Windows.
 
Yes people familiarity with windoze makes things "easier" but only until troubleshooting is required, then things can get just as "technical".

The pre-built audiophile OS images for RPi are a great way for those not yet familiar with Linux to get started, relatively inexpensive, small, quiet and miserly power usage.

Just stick to USB interfacii with support for generic UAC2, so much better than the hell that is proprietary drivers.
 
Sometimes, mainstream formats are just easier to live with - just convert to FLAC in FB2K etc.

Linux and MacOS are easier here. Windows is historically the "has to do everything" OS and does not have the luxury of a walled garden like MacOS or a relatively fresh and clean approach like Linux.

I work with both worlds and recommend Mint whenever it suits all needs.
 
I agree — Windows is more familiar for a lot of people, but certainly not “better.” Once troubleshooting starts, it can get just as technical as anything on Linux, and sometimes even more so because of the layers of abstraction and proprietary drivers involved.

The RPi audiophile OS images really are a great option. They’re inexpensive, quiet, low‑power, and the UAC2 support is clean and predictable. Mint and Zorin both worked out‑of‑the‑box for me with the DO100 Pro, no special drivers or tweaks needed.

I’m definitely not pretending I have all the answers here — I still have plenty to learn. But this experience has made me re‑evaluate my long‑standing reliance on Windows. Several years ago, Windows was the easy one to configure, but these days I am seeing a big change the other way.

That's what my wife says. I sometimes make things twice as bad by "fixing things"!
 
As far as I know that one is aimed at producing and bringing down latency. It doesn't support DSD or DoP.

But my last usage with WaveLab is some time back.
