SMSL D1 - ROHM DAC for everyone

But that was misleading, because the clicking noise was what you complained about in the first sentence.

Then you can only try it with a different device and hope that it was due to the earlier version of the SU-1/firmware. There might not be a new firmware because something has changed in the hardware, and Shenzhen Audio doesn't want to spend money on a firmware update since all these devices have already been sold.

My D1 always follows the mouse click on the foot, whether starting or stopping. The moment I click, the music starts playing. Without any additional noise.
Yes, I thought later that I should have emphasized it was the gap/delay that was most annoying to me, but I thought it came through that I was looking for a comparison in how the SU-1 behaved vs the D1. I think we have cleared that up. I will order one and compare the response time. I don't have any use for MQA, so that's not a loss.

Уважаемые участники форума,
Я новичок.
Могу ли я прослушивать музыкальные треки через этот ЦАП с телефона на базе Android?
Welcome to the forum and this thread.

Dear forum members,
I'm new to this forum.
Can I listen to music through this DAC from an Android phone?

Normally, yes, as long as the Android operating system supports the XMOS chip (the most common USB chip in DACs). Ideally, you should power the D1 separately via a USB power adapter (standard 5V). The D1 has an additional power connector with a USB-C socket.
It's also important to note that the distance between the two USB sockets is very small, and the USB-C connectors must be very flat. With two USB connectors on the D1, each USB connector should be a maximum of 6.5mm thick or thinner.

Switched a new D1 in and out with an SU-1 repeatedly and came to a similar conclusion -- keeping the SU-1 and sending the D1 back. Not a blind test, but as good as I could manage -- same volume (assuming correctness of their identical output ratings) and same music selections -- and I found it very hard to define any difference. I do prefer the aluminum face and physical button of the SU-1.

this would be a more informative opinion if you stated the rest of your system, especially speakers used.

Sure. Qobuz over Lyrion Music Server running on an iMac sent via ethernet to an Apple Airport Express, with its optical out connected to the DAC; preamp: Fosi P4; amps: Fosi V3 monoblocks; speakers: The Pitts (a DIY bookshelf design I built years ago according to an Audio Magazine article from the late 1990s by Ken Kantor of NHT and other speaker design fame -- acoustic suspension with 6.5" Tonegen woofers and 1" Tonegen fabric dome tweeters in a ¾"MDF box covered in walnut veneer).

Its like i'm destined to have issues with this dac. The rail splitter is already failing after TWO AND HALF MONTHS. Time to DIY my own rail splitter psu that wont die this fast.

When connected to an amplifier, only one channel works on the DAC. One speaker doesn't work. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Can you elaborate? What are the symptoms/problems? If it is failing, why not exchange it under warranty?

Have you checked what exactly isn't working?
Please swap the RCA cables only at the D1 output, not at the amplifier.
Does the signal now switch to the other channel?

I connected the DAC to the amplifier with an RCA cable. One speaker sounds good, but the other one makes noise. That's the whole problem.

Have you already tried what I wrote?

I swapped the cables. Now, the speaker that worked doesn't work, and the one that didn't work now works.

If you only swapped the cables on the D1 connector, then unfortunately you probably got a defective one. That's a real shame.

Then you'll have to contact the retailer so they can exchange or replace it.

I have another pair of RCA cables and the problem reoccurs with them.

Unfortunately, the test already confirmed that.
This allowed me to rule out that the problem was with your RCA cables or the amplifier.

I'm sorry for you; I hope you can sort this out with the seller.
