I am specifically looking at these two speakers, but I'm sure there are general answers that will apply. If there is anyone that has been able to experiment with both these and a sub, it would be great to hear from you!

The -3db point is 58Hz for the R3 & 79Hz for the LS50.

If I am going to high-pass the fronts at 80Hz or higher, is there any reason to prefer the R3's over the LS50's? There is a large difference in price, especially when looking at used options. The LS50's are a bargain if they don't disadvantage me over the R3's in this setup. My assumption is that the sound profile would at least be very similar between the two in this setup.

My sub is an ELAC Reference Series RS700 (Sealed 12" 17Hz to 150Hz - w/ DSP Room Correction)

It will largely depend on how loud you want to play.

So, larger room, further from speakers, playing louder... go bigger. Smaller speakers will distort at lower SPL, all things being equal.

I'm sure people will get specific on these two options, measurement wise (no time right now for me to dig them up). But that's the main issue, in general.

So how loud do you need to get?

Depends on your room layout and size.

The room is about 63sqm / 678 sq ft, with the listening position about 10ft out from the fronts - in one half of the room.
I own both OG LS 50's and LS 50 Metas, but my room is a good deal smaller than yours. I would think that since you are listening in the far field in large room (a 20' x 30' room is 600 sq ft) you should opt for the R3 Metas, or at least I would. But you might also want to consider the Asci C6b's as well.

Just curious since you mentioned, you have both OG and the Meta. How would you compare them? I’m using OG’s right now, and have no complaints. What about trying the Metas. Have other speakers, my other current main speakers are xtz 99.25. The C6Bs have peaked my curiosity. thinking it might just be more of a lateral move though, but interesting. I appreciate the waveguide as I’ve put together many horn systems in the past. The low crossover point of the C6B remind me of in its own way(but much more modern) an Altec 414 crossed over to a horn at 800.
TIA
