So I accidentally won another turntable and my wife is thrilled.......
Besides that, I hooked it up to see if it works and it has some serious skating issues. It's a pro-ject E1 which is their most basic of turntables which Is supposed to be plug and play with preset skate and vtf.

There is no anti skate to adjust and I checked the vtf and it's set right. The platter isn't warped and the turn table is level.

Funny thing is, when I hold the front corner furthest from the tonearm up it actually plays. Any ideas on how to correct this?

See picture for the completely unlevel angle this thing needs to play a record.

Hmmm... that's bizarre.
How did you "check the VTF"? With a scale, I hope.

hmm... I've got nothing.
My guess (and it's just that) is that the anti-skate force (maybe a spring?) is horrifically over-applied. Anti-skating is one of those things that can cause more harm than good even under good circumstances -- at least from my perspective.
My second guess ;) would be something amiss with the arm itself.

One other question that will seem ridiculous (but might not be) -- there is a stylus on the end of the cantilever, right?

Some sharp logical thinking.

When i used to tinker around record players, i often removed the stylus and easily forgot to fit them before testing.

sharp and logical are two words that are seldom applied to me or to my on-line persona.
;)
But -- the sans stylus gambit does indeed rear its embarrassing head on occasion.

I hope resolution to the issue will be swift & sure @Peppy!
We'd hate to see this turntable windfall come to a pointless conclusion.

(as awful as that pun is, it's not original to me -- I stole it from an old Warehouse Sound catalog many decades ago...

These are the kind of puns that needle me, but the OP is a diamond geezer, a man of consummate stylii...

but... do we want the thread to go static ?Though the pressing issue at hand is resolved, we have barely scratched the surface. Members were just getting into the groove for more awful puns.

Please don't start me up... I'm not well adjusted to this kind of pun contest and will spin out of control (and really, no puns intended). Just recycle the turntable and get proper music! :)

Ok...am skipping to next track...
sorry next thread
I'm off to eat some Rice Krispies with a gimp hood on my head to enjoy some vinyl simulations.
Not really.

You own such a small music collection and yet you have a 2-mile sniper rifle? :)
