Also added EVAL-1 as measured both by ASR and SoundStage, making a solid 3rd place entry. This should also be representative to the single Hypex SMPS1200A400 + 2 x Purifi 1ET400A modules + buffers offered by March, Nord, Purifi, Audiophonics, VTV and others, making them a killer mid-powered stereo amplifier for about 1.3k to 1.5k euros.

As I wrote in other threads before, the online SoundStage! Network has been measuring amplifiers for a long time now, formerly by 3rd parties (BHK Labs from Bascom H. King) and currently in house. All measurements are listed here:
https://www.soundstagenetwork.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17&Itemid=141

I also mixed in there some amplifiers measured by Stereophile.
https://www.stereophile.com/category/integrated-amp-reviews
https://www.stereophile.com/category/solid-state-power-amp-reviews

And also Stereo magazine:
https://stereo-magazine.com/

And some datasheets of complete amp modules (ICEPower, Hypex, Pascal).

I wanted to compare these to the ASR standard measurements: SINAD at 5W in 4 ohms, and power at 1% THD+N in 4 ohms. So I chose some amplifiers that interested me more (let me know if you wish I can add more), read their graphs, converted to SINAD, color coded and created the list below.

I hope you find as interesting as I did. :)

As a big fan of meta-analysis :) I think it would be pretty interesting to plot distortion (assessed by whatever means -- apples to apples, of course) vs. MSRP.
... and, no, I am not being facetious.

Have taken the list presented in Post 1, and converted it to Excel file format (.xlsx) and text (.csv). All data in the table is now numeric, providing the ability to sort and plot to your hearts desire. As suggested in the discussion, I have added in a price column (MSRP). Prices were obtained from Stereophile, What Hi-Fi, Amazon, and ASR. No attempt was made to compensate for review date, and all prices are for a stereo pair (may be some mistakes in the monoblock pricing, as some of the reviews are vague as to whether the price was for one or two channels). Enjoy!!

So, for a quick example of calculating a ratio and plotting it, here is "The Cost of Power".

I wanted to compare amplifiers measured elsewhere to the ASR standard measurements: SINAD at 5W in 4 ohms, and power at 1% THD+N in 4 ohms. So I chose some amplifiers that interested me more (let me know if you wish I can add more), read their graphs, converted to SINAD, color coded and created the list below.

I hope you find as interesting as I did. :)

Great work here Matias!

In the list I find NAD M22 two places?
NAD Masters Series M22 - 0.013% - 78 - 400W (orange)
and
NAD M22 - 0.0012% - 98 - 360W (blue)
Even if the one is NAD M22.2 (newer) there cannot be
a difference that great.

There is some Pascalmodule in the list. If you se the homepage
of the firm: www.pascal-audio.com all their modules have
quote: "THD+N (typical) <0,05% (20Hz-20kHz, 8 ohms load)"
That's also more in line with Gato Audio DIA-250S NPM with
Pascal Module with THD+N 0,09%.
(Both firms are a few kilometers from where I live)

I have both Hegel H190 and Hegel H390.
The H390 is at line with H30, their mountain of a poweramp,
and better than their most expensive int. H590.
But H190 is worse than H160 (elder), that don't make sense.

Hi @ENG thanks.

Many times the same amplifier was measured in different places. I decided to keep the best measuring ones. I just removed the duplicate entry for M22. In this case, the better measuring was from Hi-Fi News and the worst measuring from Stereophile. It kind of makes sense SINAD around 95s as the M22 is based on NCore, and all NCores are around the 95s. I don't know why it measured worst on Stereophile...

As for Pascal, I read the THD+N on 1kHz at 5W from the graphs on their datasheets.

The Hegel amps I just read graphs and typed the values. I don't judge if the measurements are done wrong (unlikely) or if a Hegel amp may sound better than other, perhaps there is something better like DAC in there that contributes?

Of course the ideal would be for the manufacturers to provide the same standardized measurements of power x THD+N showing the reading at 1kHz and 5W, but those are few... Right now what we have instead is read them from different sources. Better than nothing.

I applaud the efforts of everyone contributing to this project. It doesn’t replace a complete suite of testing, but having this important data point that’s consistent and comparable is really useful. I’m sure some people who are new to ASR will look at the numbers and assume it’s some kind of sound quality ranking, but for those of us who have been around for a while and know better I think it’s a great resource.

I'm surprised to see the Boulder 2150 so far down the list on SINAD. On the Darko Audio podcast with Bruno Putzeys, he references the Benchmark AHB2 and the Boulder 2150 as the best amps in the world (aside from his Purifi and NCore amps).

Yes, I am surprised too. I wonder if there are another measurements where it performs better, as the M22 above? I don't know.

Maybe Stereophile's AP is missing a zero on the Y axis? :) @John Atkinson

I saw another user created an excel file from original post, but has this info been added to a public google spreadsheet yet, for real-time viewing?

I'm very surprised at the 5010's performance. I had written off Exposure as some cottage-industry company riding on the cult of personality accorded to boutique European audio electronics, but that's actually very solid performance. I wouldn't have expected it looking at the deceptively simple internals too.

Let me know if you find any mistake.
Lot of $5K, $10K amps way down at the bottom with awful numbers. Amazing to see the $6,700 Bryston 4B3 making much less power than the $600 XLS 2502 with similar SINAD

Let me know if you find any mistake.
There are two Rotel RB-1590's listed with different numbers, one shows 100 SINAD and 640 watts while the other shows 91 SINAD and 805 watts. Are those different amplifiers, maybe one is newer but has the same model?
