Simgot EW300 with different nozzles and filters.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone tried the new Simgot EW300 yet? I have a pair and I think it's technically quite impressive for the price, but it's also a bit bright/zingy. So I tried to calm the treble with filters and foam but those impacted the midrange too much.

I remembered I still had a moondrop Kato in my drawer which also has removable nozzles, so I checked if they were interchangeable, and to my surprise, they actually are!

So now I use the silver moondrop Kato nozzles on my EW300 and they sound very good imho. Pretty much like a laid back harman approach, with a bit more warmth in the lower mids. I was wondering if anyone has both of these IEMs or other IEMs with interchangeable nozzles laying around and is willing to try this "mod" as well, maybe even post measurements with the different nozzles and post their impressions here. I would be very interested in your findings.

Did you find them too zingy with the included gold nozzle (silver is too much for me too}?

Edit -actually I have the DSP version which is less spicy anyway. Suspect you are talking about the standard 3.5mm set ?

Yea, I use the 3.5mm set. I've actually found the silver nozzles to be more tolerable than the gold ones because the midrange is more forward, so the treble isn't as dominant in the mix. I usually don't have issues with forward upper mids/lower treble (I like the Moondrop Variations), but with higher frequencies. I guess the Simgot has a peak somewhere that bothers me, maybe it even is the one that shows at around 8 kHz on the measurement, but the exact position depends on the ear canal anyway. So, with the Moondrop Kato nozzles they are much more relaxed in the treble and I would really love to see measurements of these nozzles on the EW300. Maybe this is a new place to start looking into 3rd party nozzles for IEM tuning instead of tuning foam and whatnot.

It's easier to use EQ though isn't it ? Though I appreciate not possible in all set ups .

I have, and I have had them for a bit over a week, and just brought them to the post this morning xD

The problem is not much that they're zingy, they are actually dull in the highs, so much so that acoustic hi-hats become paper thin, but they are -ALSO- super boosted in the high-highs somehow. So everything up there gets super thinned out, but has its higher overtones brought back to haunt in a way that makes no sense to me.

Now if that was the only problem... The bass, especially the subs, are incredible, they feel just right to me also when compared to my full-range system in a very treated room, and also to EQd Audeze LCD-2c. They make sense. But, there's a touch too much of them, and the mid-bass is a touch recessed, but gets literally tucked back down where male vocals and a lot of fundamentals from instruments sit, so that means everything gets buried under the only coherent part of their sound (more subs, less midbass but good performance overall).

The first part that starts poking through again is the mid-highs, but only briefly, because the highs go into this rollercoaster back down to high-highs which is super exaggerated to compensate for that mess, that starts too early to be salvageable in any way for me. Basically I am not willing to sacrifice everything else just to have good bass, the tuning is absurd to my ears.

It's sort of like a set that tries to mix the music for you, problem is that properly produced music since the 90's will already sort of have exactly those contours carved on it. My 7Hz Zero 2 and even the Wan'er Studio I got all feel much more coherent in their presentation, and the 20€ Zero mops the floor with it. I ordered the Hexa yesterday to see if I can get a coherent bump on resolution for that amount of cash.
 
Also, I have to say their "problematic" area is not the 8kHz bump, otherwise I would have instantly noticed on "esses" and other consonants on vocals, and high-percussion wouldn't get that thin. It's that 13-15kHz area, but if you tuck that down you will notice the highs are already too carved out. To me it is a very improperly tuned set because it basically does away with most of the mids and a lot of areas where most producers will place relevant information and bumps out "empty" spots to try and balance it out again. I like listening to HBB speak, but I am starting to seriously doubt his hearing and/or preferences.
