Sigberg Audio Saranna (fullrange, cardioid active floorstander) development thread

Can't believe you forgot to include short clips of the zoomed-in driver cone excursion/moving!

It was debated several times, but I landed on not doing that - there's already quite a bit of focus on rock and dynamics, so I think the message already gets across that this is a pretty potent speaker. :) But yes, that would probably have been cool as well!

Norwegian Stereopluss visited me to take a closer look at the Saranna before the upcoming Oslo Hifi Show. In this video I talk a bit about the construction and also show both the bass driver and the coax driver. The video is in Norwegian, but there are english subtitles.

Pre-orders are now open!

"you do more than just listen"
Why rolling eyes?

Ok it’s not the best slogan, but it’s fine and suitable for the audience. It conveys the idea that listeners will experience involvement in the musical performance more akin to being at a live concert. For example, dancing, clapping, singing, air-drumming.

I hope I can listen to them in Italy.

Not sure when that will happen, but it will at least be possible at @Purité Audio in London. If you go there to listen and end up purchasing, we will reimburse your flight expenses up to 500 euro.

As you know there are additional costs between the UK and Italy.

What do you mean? With regards to traveling or purchasing? You don't have to purchase from Purité even though you audition there. Keith at @Purité Audio will get a comission for helping out with the audition, while you can purchase directly.

I hope I can listen to them in Japan!:D

Great show and lots of awesome feedback, the highlight for me personally was a lovely couple who had come all the way from Poland specifically to hear the Saranna! It was also clear that there in general was a lot of anticipation and many people who had heard about the launch and was looking forward to listening to the speakers. A good sign that our brand awareness is increasing.

It looked like this a lot of the time with people literally queuing into the room to get a seat :)

Some informal distortion tests. These are indoors, so some inaccuracies in the bass (room gain) as well as at 400hz (some kind of room peak). But this is measured at 2 meters, so you need to add 6dB to the decibel level, at least above 100-150hz or so. Below 100hz it might roughly what you'd expect at 1m due to room gain. And in general this isn't super accurate since you will have reflections adding to the sound reinforcing it some, but still. Some indication of what sound levels you can realistically reach in a room.

I've seen people ask for high dB measurements for larger loudspeakers, so perhaps interesting. I want to say the average level here is around 103dB/2m, so ~109dB/1m.

This was measured while I was dialing in the limiter. So here is 110dB/2m, so ~116dB/1m, here some limiting is kicking in so the response is changing a bit, and I also started the sweep at 50hz to save the woofers a bit of grief. Distortion is still managable I would say. And this is only one speaker of course.

A few minutes of video of the Saranna from our room at the Oslo Hifi Show this weekend, apparently filmed by a gentleman from China(?). My apologies for the "hifi" music :D - most of the time we didn't choose the music, people were free to control both what to play as well as the volume. :)
