Sigberg Audio Saranna (fullrange, cardioid active floorstander) development thread

Thank you!

The side ports are straight (if that is what you are referring to), as @CinamonRolls says, the entire enclosure is tilted.

With regards to the front baffle vents on the Manta, they are actually there to trick the coax into "seeing" a more narrow baffle and improve off-axis response. This is not needed on this speaker since the driver is almost as wide as the baffle, and the baffle itself is also more narrow than the Manta.
That makes sense yeah!

I'm actually referring to the inside of the box. You don't use a straight 'plate'/baffle where the backwave reflects off from. You use a more slanted/trapezoid shape inside.
Can you explain how this works?

While I am very open and transparent compared to most manufacturers, I do not share too much details on exactly how the cardioid works. :)

A couple of closeups to show that the finish stands up to close inspection. And these are still the pre-production pair. :)

I recently added illustrations to show the size of the speakers to the product page of the Manta and SBS.1, and now the same is available for the Saranna. :D

Very nicely done piece of detail. Will these slots be available in different colours?

No, at least not initially. But the entire speaker will be available in an alternative color that follows the same monochromatic design language but in light colors instead. So the painted parts will be in a white tone (not entirely white), and the veneer will be very light grey.

We don't have the volume to realistically handle the logistics of lots of different color options at this point. We can paint in other colors to order, but it will come with a price premium and longer delivery.

I'm short, so do I need to get a stool too?

Hehe! I guess most people sit down when they listen, and then the difference between us is less. And it's better that the tweeter is a too high than too low, so sitting a bit low is not a problem. :)

Preliminary user manual can now be downloaded here:

active speaker and smoke is a bold move for a promo shoot ;)

Just you wait, towards the end of the video it catches fire, but then we come to service it very quickly to show how good the support is. Clever, no? :D

Surprisingly the Saranna is announced by the German online hi-fi magazin fairaudio together with a discount for early adopters:

The discount is for everyone, not just Fairaudio readers. :) We have a discount for everyone who preorder. The preorder period is from March 18th (on Tuesday(!)) until May 1st. After that we will close sales alltogether until Saranna is in stock, and then we will re-open sales with the regular price.

And yes, Saranna has been mentioned in over 20 hifi-related websites the last few weeks that I've seen, in among others Norway, Sweden, Finland, the UK, Germany, Holland, USA, Italy, France, Poland, Russia, Vietnam(!) etc, with more coming.

After having worked so long to realize this speaker, it's an incredible feeling to be able to finally share the official Saranna launch video as well! It has been a lot of work, and for me personally something that really made this video amazing is the fact that we've been able to collaborate with Norwegian rock band Seigmen. Both the music and the live clips in the video are from them.

They are somewhat of a legendary band here in Norway. They have existed since the 90s, and still record today. Their style is heavy, progressive rock with a distinct melancholic sound - when you hear a Seigmen tune you recognize it immediately. Their latest albums were recorded with our Sigberg Audio MANTA system in the control room of the recording studio. :)

Enjoy the video, and make sure you view it on a large screen with good sound (aka not your phone), and turn up the volume!

Can't believe you forgot to include short clips of the zoomed-in driver cone excursion/moving!

There's a lot of media coverage of the Saranna now, which is really cool. Most are a basic description based off our press release, but today James Larson published an article about it on Audioholics as well. :) James is a very competent guy, so he also understands and writes about what makes the Saranna special. :D Since he has previously reviewed our SBS.1 speaker system he is also familiar with my ideas and approach to speaker design.
