I've not ridden my bike (bike #6) in a long while now.

Get my jollies with my glider now.

Much less traffic, no speed limit that I can exceed, can ride without a helmet, can ride with others (that's how the picture came about), and I find it very sporty.

Nice one there Ray. Looks amazing. Bet it's a buzz.... Would love to give it a go sometime.

Best of both worlds... Sky and land...

PS You forgot to mention : Burns way less fuel, so greener too!

During a recent early spring-cleaning, I found the following notes from an article in Motorcyclist magazine (Nov.1991 issue); that are relevant to this thread as well as to ASR members, as a whole:

When we are exposed to loud noises:
  • Our blood-pressure increases
  • Our heart-rate and pressure increase
  • Our breathing increases
  • Our muscles tense-up
  • Our perspiration increases
  • Our blood vessels constrict
  • Cholesterol levels increase in our hearts
  • Triglyceride levels increase in our hearts
  • Our hormonal activity steps-up
  • Hormones are released into our bloodstream
  • Our stomach increases acid secretions
  • Our reproductive system whacks-out as if on alcohol; increased sexual-drive but decreased potency
  • Our immune system whacks-out by changing white blood-cells and gamma-globulin levels.
  • Adrenaline levels increase to constrict our ears' blood-supply; while diverting our supply to our arms, legs and our heart.
I trust my notes but you are welcome to search for the above referenced article for confirmation, to verify accuracy in the 21st Century.

I occasionally miss my VTX1300R also. I now ride a Honda NC 750X DCT and a Can Am Spyder F3 Limited.

Your looking at the '64 Honda Cub right? Oh, come on that's just Ann Margaret's buns on it (photo credit: Ken Whitmore)

My 2000cc Kawasaki that I bought new in 05. It's 850lb weight is getting to be a little much for me to handle nowadays

Holy crap that's huge. Are there any bigger/heavier production bikes?
Yes, of course. The Goldwing is about that weight.

H-D Ultra Limited 917 lbs

Triumph Rocket GT 3 is about 850 lbs for a relatively naked bike that is pretty high.

BMW R18 Transcontinental is near 900 lbs.

Indian Roadmaster Limited is somewhere near 950 lbs.

And there are probably a couple monsters I didn't think about. I kind of wonder. Seems an engine made like some turbo car engines could be made plenty powerful and torquey in a very light weight, coupled with some better frame design and carbon fiber to make a behemoth this size with nothing left wanting. It is not like these are cheap either. I'm thinking all of these are north of $30k. Of course KTM appears to be headed toward bankruptcy. Maybe they should have made one of these instead of sporting and sporty bikes.

Yeah bikes that big never appealed to me, didn't realize there were so many! I'd seen some custom v-8 bikes in a video here and there. Maybe Leno's helicopter engine bike....

Never appealed to me either. Light, fun and fast. As you increased performance some size growth is needed. OTOH, a nice light dirt bike doesn't need super performance to be fun. Cruisers and Tourer's never interested me. I see how they can some people, but not me. I'm not sure why I would ever prefer a Goldwing or similar over just driving somewhere. It hits a spot for some people.

I think I might have mentioned this before but there is a group of young males that ride their EV dirt bikes around town on evenings. Like 14 or so of them and they wheely around for entire city blocks and show off the capability. Mega cool as long as an accident does not occur.

Yeah the "rideout" is pretty popular with the younger crowd. In some cities these rides can be several dozen to a couple hundred. The bike is capable for sure, especially after my upgrades....while I can wheelie a bit on a regular bike, learning at my age on a motor driven one isn't going to be happening any time soon.....unless I buy one of these wheelie machines

I have a HD Heritage that weighs in at 873 dry. Low center of balance easy to handle.

the extra mass does offer advantages in some circumstances...
a heavy cruiser in tight and slow spaces becomes uncomfortable pretty quick and the same is true for a light snappy bike on the open road on a windy day. one can't beat 800+lbs cruising in crosswinds for hrs... vibrations are another aspect, road or engine generated: a larger mass and lower rpm equals less vibrations making a significant difference in comfort on extra long rides.

my next bike i like to think it will be electric. i've been waiting for yrs... before the pandemic i was under the impression 'the market' or 'technology' was almost there and then everything got disrupted. things are now back on track w/ large manufacturers introducing electric and hybrid models.
i've ridden loud and quiet bikes but never a silent one. i'm willing to sell/gift speakers from the garage to make room for an extra bike, i'm that 'excited' about electric motors :)
