If you had a Sunbeam Tiger instead of a Sunfire it would have been maybe different.

Yes, I think the first year was the 260, but after that the 289.
I drove a Cougar with a 289 and it went pretty good for a old car. In that Sunbeam Tiger with a 4 barrel, proper cam and exhaust it would be snaky. :D

Trivia: I happen to know the rear end in the old Cougar is the perfect width to swap into a 1940 Ford coupe. Then swap out the 85 hp flathead for a modern V8 with 300+ hp. Those were pretty light though still heavier than a Sunbeam.

Wonderful vehicle.

Well you could go with 3 two barrels or 2 four barrels. Probably overkill for a 289.
Yes 2, 650 double pumpers would drown a 289...lol. I think a decent 4 barrel would suffice very well. I can't see them using anything else. :D

Carter made some 400 cfm AFBs. Small block engines with 2 fours used those. There were some Mustangs with that setup on 289's. I forget if those used a vacuum secondary on the 2nd carb or the later weighted throttle plate. Anyway the idea with both was the 2nd four barrel only opened enough to feed the engine's needs and on small blocks you didn't need all of the 2nd carb for any streetable engine. I have one and maybe 2 of those 400 cfm carbs that came off of an early Corvette.

I met a dood that put I think it was a 800 or 850 on a small 4 cylinder Ford Courier pickup truck engine. He ran the bag off that truck day and night and it took it well. Not something I would do but it was fun going for a ride. :D

I owned a VW Corrado 2.0 16v for a few months, till a blowout on the motorway caused by an HGV ratchet strap head lying in the fast lane spun me multiple times and flipped the car into a concrete post, luckily enough I walked out with only a torn shoulder. Damn shame as I really liked that car. This was what was left of it up my workshop after I stripped it.

Geee. That was a close one. Another 2 feet forward and that would have been a much more nasty accident.

Yeah it could’ve turned out bad for me and other possible road users but thankfully it happened at 2am on a deserted motorway, the ratchet hook went through the near side front tyre and the webbing strap wound round the wheel and driveshaft locking up the front end and sending me into multiple spins at 80mph, car mounted the central reservation and rolled/spun over the barrier into the other 3 lane carriageway and across the road into a concrete lamp post. I could still open my door to get out so I can attest to fact that corrado’s are built well.

With the insurance/injury payout I went on holiday to Italy for the Monza GP, and fell in love with an Alfa Romeo 75 Twin Spark turbo in beautiful Rosso Alfa red so I bought it and returned 4 weeks later to drive it back to Scotland (after it been fully serviced by the Alfa garage), LHD obviously which was an issue at junctions in this country and it took me a while to adapt to right hand gear changes but I loved that car…………….till a silly bint rear ended me at 60mph whilst I was stationary in roadworks, she was applying make up and didn’t have her eyes on the road in front:facepalm:, I doubt she ever worried about her looks again.

Didn’t mean to buy a car at all, I went to school wi David Coulthard so seeing as I had the insurance money I decided to treat myself to a holiday to catch up wi him and watch the race but his engine blew up after 5 laps . Following day I was nursing a hangover outside a cafe in Milan and across the street was an Alfa specialist garage and this glorious looking Alfa 75 with full body kit on their forecourt. Wandered over and within 30mins I had put down a deposit pending a full mechanical work over to ensure it was decent and sound. I had previously owned a dog of an alfasud that suffered from so much rust that it basically disintegrated as i drove it, still a wonderful car to drive though. Ill try and find the photos of them.

Your not a car fiend until you’ve owned an Alfa ;)

To Frank Dernie:

Any update on the Porsche Cross Turismo $S delivery?

By the way, thanks for your insightful comments on the new wave of ground effect F1 cars and the engineering problems they are presenting to certain teams.

If you are ever around the SouthernCalifornia area, please visit the Petersen Automotive Museum, from the decades when automotive meant something other than today...

You never know what is going to be on exhibit.

Yeah! I forgot about that Porsche Cross Turismo and want to see pics of it. :D

This one?
Porsche needs to hire some designers from Italy or even GM.
Seems they never can design anything that looks more than a customized VW Bug. BLAH
