Cool gig working for porsche NA, especially in the oil pumper years. Not many can say they have driven a 959 either. I had a great time at the porsche experience center last year driving a gt4RS on their track. If your 1984 is an East Coast car, I am most likely the one that put it through it's paces on the chassis dyno after it came off of the ship (during it's pre-delivery to the dealership inspection).
Since my 930 is 84 there were no USDM versions. It is euro market/grey market car. No usdm 930s from 1980-1985 due to emissions requirements. They came back to the US for 1986 with Cats and fuel trim control on the Bosch Cis system. Tons of grey market 930s in the us however.
