A Porsche is a fine car that I cannot afford.
...

Older air-cooled 911s are not only quite affordable, but they are a LOT of fun to drive other than in rain or snow (unless you are Walter Roehrl). A sharp tool for the expert user, yet a noose around the neck for the overmatched pretender. That IMO applies to many areas in life. :)

I worked for the factory from early 1984-late 1988. These cars do not tolerate fools. The fools suffer.
The early 930' series made instant fools out of pretenders when someone would be on throttle in even a mild bend in the roadway at 4500 RPM & then jam on the brake when they became scared.
When you can launch a 930 on a wet tile floor without spinning the tires (within the confines of less than a full lane width inside of a building: so that you don't go sideways on your way out of the garage door opening): then you are beginning to accomplish finesse (I even managed to teach one other person to be able to do that).

WOW, What a classic photo! I bet the photos worth a small fortune alone.
You could probably buy a new small car from the value of that winged radiator cap !!!
That's when they knew how to design cars with STYLE !

Half the freakin engine goes thru the firewall and into the cabin.
BLAH

Grandpa had a V16 1930 coupe convertible. Only saw it in photos. Later on a Packard and a 47 Cadillac Sedanette which one of my brothers still drives

I too have a turbo Miata. Mine comes with chicken and rice soup. (Warming lunch on the turbo and oil cooler at the track.)

That's why it handles so well, it's effectively a mid engined car. You don't want a great big heavy donk hanging out the front.
Opps, Naw I was fooled in the first picture. It's got a fake intermediate "firewall" for accident safety "crump zone" there I guess.

You doing "track days"? Maybe a great idea would be to install the strut tower brace I see on @carbidetooth car?
