I welcome BOP on multiclass racing. There used to be a 3hr race at Sebring that I won overall several times in my 2 liter 911 against prototypes etc. They had a BOP formula which did a good job.
If they only did it this way, I might find it acceptable (maybe): Racing series such as the British Touring Car Championship and the Japanese Super GT make use of a regulation called success ballast, which only affects the weight of a competing car.
Otherwise I am part of the fan base that they lost with the institution of BOP.
 
Or ABS? That just allows non-drivers to drive. (as does most of the "nanny" tech which mostly interferes with the ability to actually drive

One should *learn* to drive/ride without any aids, true. My fun "collectionist" car doesn't have ABS or traction control, and I love driving it. But it is also 115HP (but the car is very light), so while pretty spirited it is easy to drive (gets a bit tricky in the rain though, but I avoid driving it in the rain).

But now, all my motorcycles have ABS, I view that as a great safety feature. It's awesome in the rain or when riding over greasy roads and wet autumn leaves etc etc. 1 of them has traction control, but I leave it in sports mode with minimal intervention, and afaik it has never engaged. I also had one bike with tracttion control that acted up in light rain and nearly high sided me into geostationary orbit. :)

As to traction control, yeah, I kinda detest it because it allows everybody to drive/ride a 500HP car or 200HP motorcycle. Safer for everybody, yes. But as has been discussed, it ruins many things. And without traction control the vast majority of people would brain themselves on such vehicles.

When I still lived in Germany (as a young engineer), I had a BMW 318is that had 140HP, which sounds like nothing these days, but without traction control in the snow or heavy rain it could be a bit of a handful at times, and I spun it out 2 or 3 times, luckily without any damage other than to my pride. :)

My favorite car ever (other than the 356 replica and possibly the Abarth 500), was a 1995 Jag XJS I bought used (~1998 pic below). "Only" 240HP, but zero traction control, could also get quite "interesting" in rainy conditions on highway onramps, plenty "serpentine moments" but never an accident. (Tragically my ex wife forced me to sell it, as she claimed it showed I didn't want kids... we never had kids despite trying hard). I miss that car.

LoL... That image is a classic... Hehehe... It really shows you feeling your wild oats and living it up well. You where in very good physical condition too...

I'll concede that ABS on motorcycle is likely a good thing. But, again, it should be selectable, especially on bikes that legitimately are supposed to be able to leave the roadway.
I did not own a car for 4 years dealing with the brakes in all kind of conditions made what I do under those various conditions: automatic.
Everyone that likes driving should have a V-12 at some point. As to the wife, I would have said: when you have a baby bump, I'll sell it.
Great cruiser & good, supple handling overall. I would have put a built:

One of the worse radio transmissions in my comms system during test day at Sebring. “Breathe off a bit, first 2 segments are above pace for test day”

But in RACE cars, it should be as minimal as possible. It's driver against driver with rules governing to keep the packages as equal as possible.
Couldn't agree more.
A lot of driver aids got banned from F1 for the reasons you mention but the semi automatic gearbox means my Mum could change gear as fast and fault free as Lewis Hamilton whereas back in the day with H pattern dog clutch gearbox and 3 pedals making no errors shifting and keeping the gearbox undamaged was a big part of the driver's skill and overtaking and that has gone.

The clutch less GT3 race cars were “reportedly” developed for safety reasons. To reduce standing start accidents when a driver stalls a car.

Here in the USA we don’t do standing starts.

I know people who moved across from F1 to sailing to bring high tech to the sport but I am not sure it is all good.
Would one of those 'people' be Andrian Newey (famed CTO @ RedBull), who dabbled in the foiling-sailboats... before getting involved in the OysterYachts project?
Would we (F1/Sailing fans) know any of the other people you reference?

OT: There supposed to be a documentary titled "Adrian Newey, Building My Oyster".
 
... and have fun with a sports car with a 6 speed gearbox, 3 pedals and the only driver over-ride is ABS and the only traction aid a limited slip diff.
I'd requalify that a bit and add V6 or V8 to those 'sports coupe' qualifications, with a <$60k price tag.
Pickin's have become slim:
Camaros and Challengers are no longer and Mazda Miata does not count!
Even the Chevy Corvette has moved upclass, requiring its engine to be moved to the back-end for traction.

The Ford Mustang is about the only remaining such car for sale, in the US.:(
You can crash a Mustang on a track one weekend, and be able afford to NOT doing it again, the next weekend!:cool:

My last 3 motorcycles had ABS but I never remember feeling it in operation.
Maybe because I learned how to drive in hazardous conditions without it.
I've only felt in in my trucks a couple time during a panic stop and I shouldn't have let that happen then but crap happens ;)

Same trans advice + a few lesser mods to the engine (a bit more pep & efficiency but without losing the smoothness).
I'd venture a guess that way less than 50% of the drivers on the road today couldn't drive a stick shift. :facepalm:

Back in 2006 when I bought my Ram, I would have died and gone to heaven
to afford one with the V10 Viper and 6 speed.
Maybe if I hit the lotto I'll have my current truck upgraded with that or a big block hemi. ;)

I have always heard I6 and V12 are naturally the most naturally balanced engines around, which means they spin up faster than (marginally) less balanced engines.
However we are entering the era of combustion engines being forced to go twin turbo 4 cylinders to meet emission standards that set ridiculous procedures.

Maybe, But old school long stroke, low rpm big block V8s and V-Twin H-D's just have an appealing throb like no other.
The higher the rpm, the more annoying sound they become, at least IMHO.. ;)

No different from 2 cylinder motorcycle engines against I or V4. The rare 6 cylinder motorcycle engines are amazing, but I like a little shake and low end torque.
