It says 470 HP. Although I suspect 550 HP would be closer to accurate.
Do you think that the factory is going to tell people the truth about how much HP that they have so that the competition will know?
At 185 MPH it would still be in third gear, so no time or speed lost making a 3-4 shift.
Did you look at the weight of 1510 lbs.? And that the the weight distribution is better than the latest Corvette.
You ever do HP to weight calculations? Traction (100% in this case) to power VS weight and aero considerations?
Weight certainly makes a difference. I assumed 2500 as I missed that from your post. Revising down to 1500, it would take ~750hp to reach 185mph in the 1/4 mile.

Neat car though.

By the way did you see Ford vs Ferrari? Very entertaining movie.

Yes, they did not take TOO much poetic license in most instances. But there were a few that were over the top.
Lot's of super egos.
The Shelby Daytona's had come in 1,2,3 the year before in the 24 Hours of Leman's (they could have just helped Shelby more with that program) but Henry wanted it to be a creation directly by his orders from him (to give that personal slap in the face to Enzo).

My 16 year old V50 2.0D which is as original as possible, with many little things here and there... Still pulls like a train after 305.000km. But maybe, just maybe.. I've might have spent quite a lot of time and energy to nurture it :D

Perhaps it was a typo: Chevrolet says 470 HP
The article says 185 MPH Tap speed.
If you reverse the 5 & the 8, so that it reads 158 MPH the numbers get real close:

Using trap speed and weight

Speed at the end of the quarter mile 158 MPH
Vehicle weight 1540 pounds
Estimated horsepower 474 HP
I took a deeper dive into the Cheetah's. The 470 HP 327 was the "street" engine. It had 3 "long distance" fuel tanks (it was a road racer, after all).
For the 1/4 run just 2 gal. of fuel & the driver. For a 1/4 mile run (Let us say that 114 Octane is 6.27 LB., so subtract (I don't know how much, just a guess) for the three long distance fuel tanks. Add 2 gallons at 6.27 LB. each (12.54 LB) and a driver bringing it to 1540 pounds.
This calculation gets it into something sensible

Powertrain specs

But, I want you to note that when they raced (road racing) they used a different engine:
.
Power / weight708 ps (699 bhp) / t
Torque / weight868 Nm (640 lb-ft) / t
Transmission4 speed
Layoutfront engine, rear wheel drive
But when road racing, they used a different engine:
Power / weight708 ps (699 bhp) / t
Torque / weight868 Nm (640 lb-ft) / t
Transmission4 speed

The 377 Cubic Inch Corvette Grand Sport engine (5 of these Corvettes where made).

But doesn't seat 9 plus carry luggage or other items.
When I was a child, my parent's idea of a 5-passenger vehicle was a VW Beetle, and as the youngest child, guess where I got to sit? But as we grew older, my dad relented a bit and bought a roomier vehicle: A Porsche 912. It's possible that he wasn't too fond of kids.

We had a 1971 VW Super Beetle (my mother ordered it with AC) that we bought ordered in US Spec new from the USA but picked up at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart early in the summer of 1971. We drove it in Germany, Austria (Salzburg is both my mother's & my self's born City), Italy and some other places (there many countries are smaller than many US states, for those of you that have not been there). Just before it was time for me to go back to High School in Charleston, SC, we shipped it back to the USA as a used vehicle (well, we had put over 5000 miles on it, so it was being well used).
Being an only child (as is my now 90 year old mother), I did not have to deal with more than me being in the back seat (unless one of my friends came along.
My father had a 1969 Rambler Station wagon at the time, so if there was more than than my mother & I, that was usually what we took.
I started modifying the Super Beetle as soon as we got it home and soon had it putting out 80 HP (from the original 48 HP). As well as: better shocks, struts and anti-sway bar. So my mother became the woman with the Hot Rodded VW Super Beetle. And would use the extra and increased handling, surprising many people back then.
There were very few people (if any) on James Island, SC that were modifying VW anything back then. Chevelle's, Trans Am's, Mustang's yes. But who would hop up a VW was a frequent question for a while.

I have an old Volvo V70. Not much to cheer about other than it is durable and that all workshops in Sweden know Volvo. Good prices for repairs therefore. :)

What I wanted to do, however, is to remind you to check if you have a working spare tire, jack, and rim cross in your car. You never know when a accident can happen. Like for me today after driving on a dirt road.

I'm going to the tire shop tomorrow.:)

Damn... hope nothing else broke.
I always wanted a V70, especiallyt with a D5 - oh that sound - 4 pots sound soooo boring in comparison... such a smooth comfy ride too :D
But the price and all those modern increasing taxes on diesels... just made me nurture my V50 and make the best of it, until the politicians decide that it has to be scrapped. Then I'll figure out what kind of battery car I want... whatever happens... in 3 years or so.

The air leaked out at night when my car was parked. I noticed it this morning when I was going to the store.

I took the electric cooling fan system off a wrecked Volvo (don't remember the model) and adapted it to my 2000 Nissan Frontier truck. It works great.
As to spare tires. I always replace the mini one with a full sized spare rim & tire, even if it stays at home. I'll ride on the mini one only to get back to my home, if needed.

Thanks. The paint is pretty good, but the rest is rough. It's called English Red, and came to me from someone I know locally in PA. I had a carb kit put on it and the tank cleaned out. That's a good start, and the trans needs exercize. My local Aamco manager is an old Benz guy, so I can rely on him....maybe just get a service and band adjustment. I use an oil extractor on it, but that gets only half of the ATF at a time. Anyway, it ran about 75 miles in two days since revisiting it.

My white one has 16" staggered alloys, 4sp manual on the floor and fuel injection. Until the last goofball shop had it the thing ran like a beast. It finally runs good again, but needed a FI cleaning after they messed with....the tank I guess. Body is rusty, but the chassis is really solid, so I just plan on driving it until I can manage some bodywork and paint.

but thanks for the nice feedback. These cars get crazy attention in the wild. I don't really like old cars, but I like old Benz

My old Golfie:

Gulf6.jpg

1999 Mk4 "V6 4motion", the version with 2.8l VR6 engine and AWD. Bought it mid 2000s. Great daily driver, chunky and solid, pulls well even from low rpm, suspension in the sweet spot between firmness and comfort, very stable even at top speed on the Autobahn. Great car all around. Caveats: thirsty and somewhat costy repairs. A lot of great memories are attached to that particular car, especially winter driving in the countryside around here. Gets through the thickest snow chaos without a problem. A much better car than a standard mk4 Golf.

Highlight: it had the VW "Gamma" soundsystem that seriously played down to 30Hz. It was my go-to listening reference for my hobby productions. What sounds good in the car, sounds good everywhere!

Years ago I sold it to a friend. It developed the usual Golf problems with age: a little rust here and there, outside plastic rotting, electronics are a real nightmare. Now at age 25, it won't pass inspection anymore without an investment of thousands. Half the car starts falling apart, but the engine still runs like new!

So he sold it on lately, not to the scrapyard, but to another mate, a mechanic who's using it as a turbo car basis. Full on complete overhaul and biturbo 600hp is the goal. Nice to hear it's going to get a second life after all this time! :D

There used to be some 1960's-80's car engines that might see 3 different cars over the years, as the bodies rotted away around them.
