Nah, it's just challenges I create to deliberately feed the beast. Like the best solution to have only 1 device visible - dac/preamp on/in my tvbench. And hidden monoblocs.... Found a few ways doing it, but that project changes all the time. Only thing annoying right now is the standard 3m cable provided with HD650, that one bothers me, which is why I'll get custom Hart Audiocables with exact length

Wish I had taken l pictures of my components pre hdmi. Imagine the three component cables coming out of various video sources like DVD player, set top box going into a scaler then the scaler outputting to 5 bnc cables that go to the projector. And that's just video. Then add all the audio cables. In the early days of sacd, it was only 5.1 analog out and many components i had were stereo analog out only like FM tuner and phono stage. Since I used a prepro, there were cables to the power amps and to early sub eq (velodyne sms-1)

Sorry for late reply, missed it at the time but my mind nagged me.

I could push them back but I'm trying to make the room work before I resort to that. A bit of EQ has already helped a lot. The heater prevents the sub going up against the wall as well, I'm not sure how that would affect the sound.

I'm not sure exactly. They've been well over 20 years on my desk.

Before I bought them after I talked to Keith Whitman about monitors. Yes, him back when he still lived in Boston, I think he was still at Forced Exposure then. Actually Boston had a cool weird music scene around the turn of the millennium. Anyway I recall he gave me two bits of advice. 1) Get the monitors up off the desk top. How, I asked, like with stands? Doesn't matter how, just get them up. 2) If you can afford it, get the Genelec.

Soon after I was at Guitar Center on Boylston St (the previous location) and they had a pair heavily discounted as they were the store demos. Now that I think of it GC can't have been stocking Genelec for long. Anyway. So that was 2).

For 1) Genelec support answered my email saying I can simply screw them onto a mic stand. "On the base of the monitor is a 3/8" UNC threaded hole which can accommodate a standard microphone stand." So I did and the've been on round bass stands with a 6" tube on my desk ever since.

And what else do I like about them? There's a power switch, power indicator, and gain control on the front panel. Can you beat it? No! And that's why you can keep your The Ones (not sour grapes, no no no).

Interesting to recall that a technically smart fella like Keith Whitman was in the know about real SQ way back then.

Yes they are. I had a sub for a while and then put it away. It's been wasting space in my closet in its original packaging for years. I couldn't get used to the sound of it. It distracted. Probably a few things. a) I had been accustomed to the sound of the 1029A in that room for very, very long. b) I couldn't find a location for it that would eliminate the perception of the sound source moving around the room as the different bass notes played.

So I decided, screw this nonsense, if I need more bass, get bigger boxes.

Then later I decided, screw that nonsense too, if I really want to hear the low bass then I can put on cans. It's fine. I can live without.

I was being facetious. I saw the picture and the only thing I could think was overheating, shorter service live and possibly fire.

Ha, don't worry it's only on in winter and then just low. It's far enough away not to matter but I can wear another layer.

As I mentioned, Keith Whitman advised me. Now, since your avatar shows young the young Brown enjoying acid house, perhaps you'd dig Hrvatski, which back then was Keith's artist name for his drum-n-bass/glitch/chiptune works (I remember him showing me a tracker in a Nintendo DS). Aesthetically he outdid Aphex Twin or even DJ Ninj.

The music industry has many faults but sharing technical knowledge and insight is more common than not. Sometimes those moments can be memorable and enjoyable to recount and be heard. I think I'm lucky to have some of that.

I do recall the name, although I'm more into early Autechre and Aphex. The arrythmic qualities that became more prevalent do nothing for me. Wagon Christ, Red Snapper et al are just too much, as were trackers. Very clever stuff though.

KFW isn't for everyone, in any of his modes, that's for sure. Worth a try. I like to proceed from the assumption that anyone can like anything.

Not bad at all, but shoved in the corner there it must be difficult to see.
Try moving your equipment to the middle of one wall, then all that lovely mess can really be appreciated from all angles.
