I threw a new set of sram force axs lhs power meter cranks on my trek last night. £400 lighter wallet, 238g lighter bike.....

I've had a number of bikes, still sad I sold this one:

Apparently this was one of the first 5-speed hub gearboxes, it also had a drum brake in the front and the stand folds both legs to one side which is just so brilliantly complicated for no reason.

I had one of these Schwinns and have fond memories of terrorizing the neighborhood.

OT: I next bought a used one of these Rupp 3.5HP w/a lawnmower engine:

Although totally illegal, it was a hoot!

2 more options of low horse power motorized child bikes with appropriately suggested safety helmets from before the advent of "helicopter parenting." Marketed by Penny's and Sears they were legal to operate on private property however Sears ad specifies it can't be street licensed and the Pennys ad's "*" at blurry bottom is a similar caveat.

I had a 5 speed version of the bike.
Rupp was a big brand for us but we usually switched them out for a 5 HP engine and changed the sprockets for a bit more speed.
Many of us 10-14 year old's in my neighborhood had either mini-bikes or Go-Karts (over 50% of the roads in my area were not paved until I was 27 and there were trails to High School (F the bus [that's where you might get yourself an unwanted fight scheduled at the afternoon bus stop]), to the 7/11, the Dairy Queen, the Farmers Market [no supermarket unless you crossed a bridge to town then {you could do that on foot, bicycle or take once an hour bus}}).
A friend of mine & I (in use when we were 13-14, at 15 legal driving age, we got street legal 175 CC & 305 CC Honda Scramblers) built one Go-Cart very similar to this (except we had off-road knobby tires due to the amount of non-paved areas most of our driving was on.

Ummmm... we... had this apartment complex few blocks down from us, that had a workshop and a shed for their lawnmowers and ground-keeping equipment.
Ummmm... now you know how we 'sourced' our mini-bikes replacement parts.
Ummmm... did you similarly 'source' your parts.... ummmm... in the same ways?
