Hi everyone,
lately i saw the HD 620s which has tickled my mustache, but i already have an HD 598cs,is it better ?
i am french and audio store are scarce where i am ,so no luck there to test it.
From Audiodiy it appears that the the hd 598cs has more linearity and has way less reverb, but the HD 620s does not appear to be damped and even puts it in emphasis, anyone knows why ?

I also wonder about the use of a tube amplifier, mine is a FX-Audio tube 02 pro with dual 5725W:100V(grid)/(20V/1.79V)(output),is it necessary for this one ?
will i get clipping from smartphone(?)/laptop(15v/2v?) amplifier ?
My genres varies much from slow to fast music, and melodic to UN-melodic(Fairport Convention to Avenged Sevenfold) music,i like clarity and timber, free and unconstricted sound.
I absolutely love the breath of the hd 600 ,will i get something similar here,my Hd 598cs are already quite cold in work but here there's more impedance on the HD 620s(so more heat to dissipate)*.
Let me know what you think :) .

*:Technically yes ,but it seems low powered here and quite sensitive,i don't have enough ressources on this potential fact.

If there are no issues for you with regard to fit, distortion, or the need to repair your old headphones AND you can use EQ or PEQ via your device then you might not need to upgrade at all. You could try various EQ or PEQ presets defined by Oratory, Crinacle, Squidlink, AutoEQ etc. Try the different EQ/PEQ options and see which you prefer. You might also then try gentle tweaks to suit your own needs. Just my thoughts, based upon my own experiences and feedback from this forum.

The psychological issue is not knowing, without actual testing, if your current headphones with EQ or PEQ will match "superior" headphones.

When you can easily afford it and now only have the HD598CS and do not EQ it and find the HD598CS to lack clarity/sparkle then I would say it could well be worth to buy the HD 620S.
When possible buy it from a website where you can return it (Thomann for instance) when unsure and it cannot be demoed locally.

For me (owning both) the difference in sound quality is substantial (without any EQ).

I'm not fond of EQ , low/high pass filter are flawed no matter their benefits .I don't even EQ my HD 25,even though some part of the tuning are supposed to be aggressive,i dont feel it,nor hear it,but still, last time i tried it added fuzziness to the sound(distortion?) and an horrific timber, the body of voices were simply thinner (timber?).
I can return articles with prime on amazon i'll try there.
What is the most obvious difference you can hear beyond the lack of clarity/sparkle ?
Thanks to you both.

I haven’t heard any closedback Sennie from the 5 series sound as good as the HD620S.
I have however come across quite a few audiophile folks over the net that seem to be judging the 620 entirely on looks…and it does look very much like a 5 series headphone. I guess Sennheiser should have slapped on some exotic wood/metal and perhaps a fancy braided cable, because that seems to be what these cats generally go for (looking at Head-Fi).

In short: don’t knock this can before you actually testdrive it. I wasn’t all that keen on it when I saw the first measurements of it. I was looking at other possible closedback candidates but decided to give it a shot - actually on the backbone of Solderdude’s review.
I have been extremely happy with my purchase - and I don’t even like closedback headphones!
It’s rare that I find a closedback that actually sounds natural. It’s also rare that I find a closedback that matches with my amp as most modern closedback headphones are so sensitive, I end up fumbling around at 7-8 o clock on the volumepot..in low gain. Nice to have yet another closedback option for those of us who don’t want to rock a Beyer.
Comfort is outstanding as Sennie seems to have upped their pleather pad game - at least from what I can tell. They are so soft and comfortable….if only they were velour!!! Which is my sole complaint about the 620.
