I own some Tannoy precision 6.4 speakers. I absolutely love them and have bought expensive Nad C399 and power amplifier to help compliment them further.

I'm debating adding dual Rel TX9's with the thought of adding higher quality bass.

My other alternative is to sell the 6.4's and buy the Tannoy DC10T

Your thoughts,?

Correct number of subwoofers = N + 1

where N is the number of subwoofers currently owned.

REL subs are quite overpriced, firmly in "audiophile" brand territory. For American customers, I usually recommend HSU or SVS. For Europeans, BK Elec or XTZ have some good options.

Adding some good subs will allow for higher quality bass, because with proper placement you can manage room modes more effectively than you can with just a pair of tower speakers.

However, room acoustics matter a great deal. Adding subs won't correct every room mode, and it also won't improve the decay times of your bass. Having thick bass traps will help your sound quality significantly.

Good speaker and listening positions can also help, although only to a certain point. Usually when you move things around, you will be improving one problem area and worsening another.
