Shani operating system

"Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ... FAILED"

This means the disk is mounted and in use elsewhere. It could be your installation media that you are trying to install to.

The other error following the word "mount:" means the system is looking for a disk labelled 'shani_root' which it has been unable to create**, because the media (disk) you chose to install to was already in use.

**[INSTALL] [ERROR] disk partitioning failed points to this issue.

You need to ensure the disk you are wanting to install to is not in use, and can be partitioned, labelled and formatted (it looks as though the installer does this all for you if you choose the correct disk).

A second console might be available during installation (press alt and F2 to activate) - if so, you can type mount to see which disks / partitions are mounted.

More likely Ctrl-Alt-F2 (switch to second virtual terminal). The number of VTs, and which ones have something connected, varies. You may have to try different F-keys to find one that's available, or to get back to the original one.

Indeed, I just noticed the screenshot was from a gui rather than console. Thanks for the correction.

Two contributions which show that you guys know what you are talking about! Thank you.
I am going to have to give it a rest, as we go away for a couple of days to visit a nephew who is very ill.
But, as always, you guys continue to point me in the right direction.l
