Sennheiser HDB 630

Are you sure that the M4 was worth $500 at the start of sales?

The M4 has a retail price of $450 even now, but it sells everywhere in the US for $250. Supposedly, the 630 has a fairly neutral frequency response and is aimed at the audiophile market. The M4 is bass heavy headphone aimed more at the general consumer market. (I say supposedly because I have not heard it myself yet.)

My experience with the wireless SENNHEISER PXC 550-II was utterly horrid, so unfortunately, I will never try Sennheiser wireless models again. This was my AMZ review in early 2022:

"..
If listening to music is a priority, these headphones are honestly useless. I tried them on different devices - Windows PC, Ubuntu PC, Android smartphone and tablet. Right next to the Sennheisers, not testing the BT distance at all. Always with the same result, be it with local or Spotify music: constantly re-occurring dropouts and static issues. Let me also note I have AKG N60NC and Jaybird in -ears, and never have any issues listening to music with those.

It's a shame because I was really trusting the Sennheiser brand, and also because the noise cancellation seems to work very well indeed. They are also very comfortable and the touch control is a great idea.

But the music dropouts are a deal-breaker and these go back for a refund. [which was issued promptly] .."

You couldn't, say, order from a place with a good return policy and if you still experience connection issues then return it? I certainly have had absolutely zero bluetooth issues with my HDB 630 whereas my original Momentum True Wireless IEMs have been an absolute disaster in terms of connectivity and battery life. It's called progress.

I did return it fine and got a full refund promptly, no complaints there at all (as I clearly stated). The p*ss poor BT connectivity was the only (yet brutally relevant) issue.

You’re talking about the PXC 550-II, am I correct?

I’m talking about trying the same with a pair of HDB 630, hence my comment about progress.

Got it, sorry for mishearing. I shall try them when I have the need again... happy with current BT stuff.

@HeadAmp using the BF20SECRET coupon code. On backorder, but 100$ off is 100$ off.

A gulf of difference between the headfonics review and the DMS review stating it sounds almost as good as the HE-1 lmao

at least post a review with some objective measurements https://www.soundguys.com/sennheiser-hdb-630-review-audiophile-anc-at-a-cost-146569/

this was on my watch list until there was a sleak deal on XM6 :D. So maybe in a year or two when it will have come down in price

After waiting almost a month on my Order (EU), and a very poor experience with Sennheiser support basically constantly telling me "Next week it will ship" without anything happening, I finally received my unit a few days ago.

They sound very good to my ear, I much prefer them over my FT-1. The ANC is okayish, definitely far from the best, same for the Passthrough/Transparency.

I initially had some issues with Volume being mismatched between the Headphone and my Phone (on android) but they seemingly disappeared after I restarted the Headset.

The Touch controls are absolutely unusable and *have* to be disabled in my Opinion. I'm not usually one to hate on touch controls, in general I enjoy having them. But they apparently do not have any accidental touch prevention on this unit, you cannot adjust them on your head or take them off of your head without accidentally changing volume, or changing from ANC to transparency or pausing/playing a Song. I really hope they will be able to tweak the sensitivity of the touch controls with future firmware updates.

Using it on PC with the Dongle is a mixed experience, you have to manually disable the microphone in control panel or it will be stuck in Hands free mode with terrible quality, the Dongle even in "low latency" mode does not provide latency good enough to play games, at least for me it's still too distracting. Wired via USB-C it's okay, I guess it has the Upside of keeping them Charged for when you take them out with you.

I personally don't think they're worth the 499€ asking price for most people, though I don't regret my purchase given my XM3 were getting a bit long in the tooth, and I wanted something with better sound Quality than say the XM6.

I just found the reviews of these guys to be extremely biased, and sometimes deceitful and generalized. For example, I remember their review on momentum 4, where did they get this frequency response from the M4 ???
Many technical enthusiasts also disagree with these frequency responses. I'll say more, it shows exactly the same frequency response. rtings.com but they have already mentioned their "outdated" methods somewhere. But their frequency response is licked off, It doesn't matter who peeked at it. But there is no objective frequency response on the M4 on the Internet (except for passive mode), and I would also not trust these guys on the HDB630 topic.

I have no idea about their credibility, if they were lying then it's another thing (if we have proofs), my point is everyone can do an unbox and impression, but listening experience is quite useless unless we have some objective measurements. If you have better measurements for this headphone from a reputable source, please post. I either trust only rtings or amirm on their measurements but neither has reviewed this one.

I fully trust Amir and diyaudioheaven, because my measurements also agree with theirs, the others that I mentioned above are "authoritative" publications, ordinary populists, I don't blame them, they earn as much as they can. But the scientific approach requires more accuracy in measurements and re-checking your data. and they would have more objective numerical data, like Amir's.

Yeah the first wave of reviews threw me off due to the hype. With the dust settling we're seeing less "new toy" bias.

It should still be a good headphone, though.

In Canada, the Momentum 4 is now selling new for CDN299 (USD215) in a choice of color. This is less than half the price of the HDB 630 for, let's say, 85-90% the performance. So the 4 has now become the highest performing set within it's "new" price tier, by a wide margin.

Has anyone compared these to Levinson 5909? Specifically, headroom. I’d be done with wireless headphones if that one had 3-4 dB more headroom.

I listened to that one along with bathys, dali's fancy wireless, b&w 9x8, ipods max, sony xm5 and bsoe qc ultra, momentum 4, and the bose won. levinsons were among the least good sounding to me and the anc wasn't in the top tier either.
