When I had a headphone business, Sennheiser sold me a set of HD800 as an accommodation when they wouldn't let me retail the brand because I didn't have a brick storefront. I used these cans sporadically alongside other cans over the years, but they've been unused for several years as I switched into IEM's. I kept thinking I would go back to on-ear, but I just never did, and with kids in expensive colleges, I'd like to, ahem, redeploy assets. The HD800's are peerless when it comes to imaging. It's the FR that needs work. You've got to EQ down the peak at 6khz and shelve up the deepest bass, as you probably know if you're reading this.
The headband shown is NOT the one that will ship. I've ordered an OEM replacement which the buyer will remove from its sanitary wrap and snap into place. The earpads got replaced shortly before I ceased using the headphones, so those are great. The cable currently on the cans, exactly four years old, is here:
