Sennheiser HD650 Review (Headphone)

I recently remembered that I have an old HD 650 from presumably the early 2000 or 2010s somewhere in the attic that I used at some point and then stopped using because my ears were always squashed against the driver foams or earpads, resulting in pain-induced breaks every other hour. solderdude mentions in his review that newly sold HD 6xx come with thicker, less compressible earpads... Would those help? Did anyone have the same problem and solved it with the new pads?

You could get some aftermarket thicker pads, like Brainwavz. They will likely sound different than the originals but perhaps it’s a reasonable trade off.

Yeah Brainwavz and Dekoni have plenty of Sennheiser HD pads to choose from

I didn't try Dekoni and Brainwavz, but ZMF and YAXI are a waste of time and money. They make an already bass-light headphone a no-bass headphone.

My Emotiva DAC/HP-Amp has a +3db @ 20hz switch. ;)

I'd like to stay close to the original sound... The Dekoni pads seem to substantially alter it? That's why I'm asking about the new-style Sennheiser pads. Can't find info for the Brainwavz ones.

Anything but the original pads will modify the sound

I went through all pages but couldn’t find answers.
I’d like to try Amir’s EQ but my device only supports 1 low shelf filter, is there any other way to use his values like inputting one filter as peaking?
Thanks in advance

Amir's settings are rough estimates and still leave some deviations from Harman, so I'd recommend you find new values that are compatible with your EQ solution and more accurate to boot.

The best way to do this is using https://autoeq.app/

You can select oratory1990's HD 650 measurement from the list, then choose the right equalizer app for your purpose, or choose Custom Parametric EQ and select the exact type, number, and parameter ranges to match your EQ.

That being said, I EQd with Oratory's setting, but then lowered the bass by 1 dB and raised the treble by the same amount. It might be a deviation from the Harman target, but it sounds much more balanced to me. So feel free to experiment. After all, the OE2018 target is a preference one (yes, it's based on research and statistics, but still).

I already tried oratory but I'd like to compare the 2.

But in the meantime I used the GEQ conversion and added to AutoEQ to convert it to PEQ and this came out:
Preamp: -3.96 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105.0 Hz Gain -14.0 dB Q 0.70
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 41.4 Hz Gain 5.2 dB Q 0.76
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 76.3 Hz Gain 7.2 dB Q 0.74
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 244.5 Hz Gain -0.7 dB Q 0.75
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 665.0 Hz Gain 0.2 dB Q 1.18
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 1230.6 Hz Gain 0.2 dB Q 3.27
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 3682.9 Hz Gain 1.0 dB Q 1.38
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 6619.0 Hz Gain -1.0 dB Q 2.28
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 9805.4 Hz Gain -2.7 dB Q 0.96
Filter 10: ON HSC Fc 10000.0 Hz Gain 4.0 dB Q 0.70

But -14dB at 105 Hz does not look right to me however I'm rookie, didn't have the courage to load it in

Hello guys.

Has anyone tested the ZMF Suede pads? Do they worth for replace my HD600 or buy stock ones? Thanks

Simply put; if you love the sound of the HD650, then the stock pads are the way to go. If you want something that is ever so slightly more comfortable that also messes with the midrange, then go for the ZMFs. I wanted to like the latter because I really dig the comfort, but the sound quality takes a nosedive imho.

Same for the HD600 with ZMF suede I guess?

What are these filters for?
Seems unnecessary, like I said I just asked AutoEQ to convert the GEQ into PEQ. I haven't tried out this profile with my HD 6xx because my device will support 2 low shelves in the future so I can load Amir's EQ. Currently I just use my recently acquired HD560S and I just don't feel the need to take out the Hd 6xx but I still would like to know if the above conversion is correct or not.

I like this EQ (you can try it out, it's basically the oratory1990's Harman OE2018 EQ with a bit lower bass and a bit elevated treble):

To be honest, the differences between profiles is often quite small and I couldn't really tell sometimes but many people says that Amir's is different enough in a good way so I'd like to try it. Also I'll try yours when I can.
