Sennheiser HD 480

Does anyone own a pair of Sennheiser HD 480? Picked a used pair up for cheap, as I’m always interested in trying older Sennheiser. The sound is pretty much all mids, but I wondered if that’s how they should sound, or if it’s my pair?

There aren’t pads as such, just a cloth covering over the driver. You can remove these, and underneath, it looks as though an inner material over the driver is failing and turning into dust. So, are is the outside cloth cover original? Will the falling inner material over the driver affect the sound?

Hello, late reply I know.
I have just bought what I think to be the similar model as yours (the one with the coloured rings), mine came from an ex BBC stock.
The fabric cover is original as far as I know, the inside material is failing on mine too and I'm replacing it with some aftermarket brand ones, I guess it will have some effect on the sound, maybe not dramatic.

Quite difficult to find replacement parts for this one especially the pads, as the later version used a sponge type one (instead of fabric glued to a plastic ring).
