Seeking Brighter Sound Than My ELAC Debut ConneX DCB41 – Suggestions?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading my post.

I recently bought a pair of ELAC Debut ConneX DCB41 active speakers with a 2 week trial period. While they deliver clean, distortion-free sound, I’m not fully convinced they’re right for me. They sound a bit muffled or muted, lacking the brightness and sparkle I prefer. They’re high quality, but the overall presentation feels too warm and not lively enough.

A couple notes about my setup and discoveries:

  • The distortion issues I had before with my previous speakers turned out to be caused mostly by the FxSound equalizer app (as well as the compressed files of Spotify), not the speakers themselves.
  • I’m realizing I prefer a sound signature with clarity, crisp treble, openness, and good but not boomy bass.
  • My budget is around €500–€600 max, ideally less.

Given this, can anyone recommend active speakers (or a passive + amp combo) that deliver a brighter, more energetic sound with good bass and minimal distortion?

AI is recommending Klipsch The Fives V2.

Thanks in advance.

Lol ya know what's funny, I am literally in the same situation as you. :')

- I owned the Elac DCB41, used FxSound and Spotify
- Looking for a brighter/trebly sounding speakers with the budget around the same as yours

Did you try using EQ to increase the brightness tho? that's what i did with my DCB41. It might solve your issue.

I am also looking for other active speaker recommendations with the requirements mentioned by OP!

Hi,
What is your signal chain to your speakers? Source, any processing, dac etc? It makes sense to be sure that this is not the problem before you make changes.

Two other thoughts; don't use AI for this, it regurgitates erroneous "hifi wisdom " and is often plain wrong. Secondly, Klipsch is known for boosted treble - usually to an extreme - and could just give you a new problem!
Generally, flat/neutral speakers that you can adjust to taste is the way to go

I am using an active speakers setup, connected directly to my computer. What I'm looking for in a speakers is more of a bright/treble-head sound, if that makes sense? Not sure about OP, but that is my requirement.

My best bet is that what you are describing is not the top end, but the 2-5khz presence region dip.
