sealed front firing 8" sub for music?

Ok gents. Final list for recommendations.

  1. B&W asw 608
  2. KEF kube 8 mie
  3. Dynavoice challenger sub 8
  4. Mission MS 150
The basic limiting factor in my case is size. I could go higher in price but do not find smth at 31cm. The velodyne deep blue 8 meets the size requirement but i read conflicting reviews.
3 and 4 seem weak (and cheaper)....but who am I to judge?

Music quality at low to medium sound level is our only criterion.

Thank you in advance,

These small subwoofers will be quite bass limited, the KEF for example is 34Hz (-6dB), which might not be much lower than many bookshelf speakers might reach, in-room, on their own.

Having said that, the Elac Debut 3.0 B5.3 does have quite a limited low end: -6 dB: 48 to 38Khz

Would it be possible to put a larger sub somewhere else in the room, other than in the cabinet?

Failing that, have you considered a slightly larger set of speakers that would get you a bit more low end on their own, and not using a sub?

I'd add Dynaudio SUB250/SUB250 MC or similar model - used/second hand of course.
Some years ago I managed to get one for ~$400 and man did it deliver. This thing is compact yet agressive. And fast.
It simply humiliated Whafedale-something-cube which I bought before just to try if I need a sub as a thing (yep I did).

Things are going to resonate like crazy.

I use a B&W ASW 608 in my kitchen and it works well for what it is. Obviously it doesn't dig particularly deep but it sounds good even when pushed to "party in the kitchen whilst cooking" levels. Not a particularly big kitchen tho...

Perhaps it could be wedged in and the unit secured and braced in a visually unobtrusive way to minimise this. The OP says volume levels will not be high, so it could work pretty well, given the obvious inherent compromises.

From the M&K Literature:
Exceptional for both its musical articulation and its ability to produce enormous amounts of bass from an extremely compact cabinet the MX-70B simply outshines the competition in delivering world-class performance in a small package.
Frequency Response: 27 Hz - 200 Hz. Dimensions: 18.2” x 10.3” x 13.7”

Hi all,
Fair to say what I did after all your input.

I had decided on the KEF kube 8 mie but in greece it was not available and they said after a week...then they said after a month..

So I bought this:
https://www.nubert.de/en/nusub-xw-800-slim/a044138

I was just browsing and I saw it... with 14 cm height it seems to fit nest to the tv tabe.

I will let you know how it plays :)

Hi all,

I received the nubert xw-800..installed it and calibrated with the mic.

Sound became much bigger, soundstage expanded....and here comes the but...

Too boomy in some songs. tried to put it in different locations, down firing, wall firing, reduced the db all the way down....still very boomy in some songs to an annoying degree.

I really moved it around even put it in the middle of the room.

I am about to return it. any ideas?

Any EQ? If so which one? Tough to tell without measurements.

Can you borrow a sub and see if the problem exists with that sub? Trying to see if it is a room problem or sub problem

the only eq capabilities are the basic from the powernode edge (treble/bass) and the sub itself.

I put the powenode at -6db and the sub at -15 and the problem persists. played with every possible scenario with crossover settings and even no crossover and low pass setting...the room is a typical reactangular living room (10x4m).

tried corner/wall firing/ down firing on room edge/down firing in the middle.

Even if it is a room issue does not change the fact. I am not blaming the sub itself :).

It sounds like some frequencies get severely amplified and echo...very low volumes (35-40db) its ok. go higher and the headache starts.

below you can see the measurements from the nuber app and the callibration:

callibration.jpg

even if i set the crossover below that 80hz spike it still boooooooms

Is the green line on the graph an actual measurement or a predicted EQ response? Usually you can tell if it takes another measurement after applying the EQ. The green doesn't look too bad. Both have a big dip about 50hz . I'm guessing that these measurements were taken at the listening position? I would take some measurements a meter in front and behind the listing position as well as a meter to the left and right. Trying to determine if this is a seating placement problem or a sub issue.

Here you can see at a different sub position. Mic in middle of room. I have now ordered a dongle from them that drops the audio signal by 10-15-20db...it is still too loud so maybe this will help integrate them with the speakers.
