Scientific Audiophile youtube video on amplifier rated power vs performance

The Scientific Audiophile recent has made a couple of videos where he critisises class D amplifiers like the Fosi Audio V3 claiming that when he plays pink noise though his 6 ohm 89db sensitivity loudspeakers the Fosi can only reach 75db at 2m whereas his Yamaha 100W receiver which can reacher over 100db at 2m:


Can anyone explain why this is the case? Is it about gain?
 
What speakers and why pink noise instead of muisc? What range did he use for the pink noise there's more low boost where white noise is equal. My guess the Fosi limited the low end. This is just a guess because I'm not giving clicks to this nut. Give a better synopsis.

I know he is a bit nutty but I'm just interested in an explanation of what's at work here. I think pink noise is a better representation of actual music than white noise? Music doesn't have much up in the 15 to 20khz range?

Would be nice if people didn't just reply attacking the guy (even if he is wrong in some way which I wouldn't mind having explained properly).

He's made this claim in the past. That time he was sending the same voltage to the two amps. One had lower gain, and hence put out lower power.

Of course he claimed that was a problem with the amp with lower gain.

It isn't.

Oh - he was also "measuring" power with a cheap ass clamp on current meter, and a separate volt meter. That will give incorrect power measurements.



He either doesn't understand how amps work, or he is deliberately setting things up to fail to push an agenda. He also doesn't seem to understand how to measure stuff.

Either way he is not worth your time or clicks.
 
The channel sets off my alarm bell because the only way to engage with the arguments is to watch and listen. Pure oral culture with visuals and the usual garish thumbnails (the one above is ChatGTP-generated). But no text apart from affiliate and sales links and comments with brief snarky channel replies. No web links, no author bios or bona fides, minimal video indexing, no sources or citations, no written methodology. An enclosed engagement trap that requires servile A/V consumption and provides no context for focused debate and criticism feels *anti-scientific* and cultish to me.

This small amplifier would only have to produce 300 mW to make a difference of 25dB to its 100 W.

Which is about the power output of a portable radio running on 6 V DC, sans BTL. Pretty sure a fair few modern headphone amps could do it, too.

Same here by the looks of it. Although on paper I would expect the difference to be more like 20 dB then (V3: 26 dB, random Yamaha receiver: maybe 44 dB +/-2 dB).
