Schiit Tyr mono amplifier

After experiencing modern class D and the lack of heat they produce, not sure I would want to go back to something like this. It looks like it will heat a small room. Still curious to see the measurements from Amir someday. Doubt Schiit will send him a sample though. ;)

Agreed. My properly wired Hypex NC400 stereo and NC1200 mono both ran warmer than my Schiit Tyr mono blocks.

I have experience with about 100 NC400 and NC1200. Around 15% failures for Hypex' SMPS1200A400 powering NC400. The most common failure was one or two small, specific, difficult to reach electrolytic caps. I think I repaired one which was so much trouble that I swore off future repairs. The NC400 modules themselves weren't exactly pillars of reliability but less bad than the PSs.

I've heard and suspect that some Asian-sourced cap suppliers simply up-label the voltage on caps beyond the actual capacity, causing premature failures.
 
If the figure of 15% that you mention is true, it's really huge .

I just got a pair and wasn’t expecting them to sound so much better even at lower volume. I have to push my ESLX to get them sounding full but these amps make the so dynamic at a lower volume it’s crazy. With a run of only 250 pair I figured I’d you snooze you loose. Great amps. Was surprised how much better they sound and I’m guessing it wasn’t the cables I built.
That power cord makes me smile ! I assume it’s not the one that came with the amp!
