Yeah, talking rubbish. It's always safer having a volume control between the amp section and the source(DAC). To say otherwise is foolish and risky.

Who on planet earth would "say otherwise"? :p

Almost identical performance to Atom DAC+ except for the weaker filter.
Yeah, it's a better product overall and also for less money. (although no coax input)

I had an older Modi and Magni a while back and did like the small footprint and metal cases. I don't remember if they shocked me or not in my low humidity environment. I also had an Atom stack and know for sure they never shocked me. The plastic is far from flimsy; to the contrary it was very durable. The Atom guys are not that stupid.

Nice review. Wondering what it cost to add DSD support to a product when the DAC chip supports it?

Good question.

The Topping D10s from Amazon right now is $92 with ES9038Q2M and DSD capable. Surely Sony doessn't let them do it for free????

Not made, assembled. Most likely the PCB is made in Far East.
"Designed and Built in Texas
By “designed and built in Texas" this is what we mean: the vast majority of the total production cost of Modi+—chassis, boards, transformers, assembly, etc—goes to US companies manufacturing in the US. Our chassis are made from Texas steel in California (yeah, we know, weird), and the PCBs are done in Nevada and Utah. Who needs global trade when you have statal trade? (Just kidding, of course…it is still a global economy. But you get the picture.)"

Why say assembly then?

I am Canadian and do not know the requirement to get a made in USA tag. In Canada what they describe count as made in Canada. Sometimes it's just not worth the hassle to have to justify what percentage of this and that. Don't know, it doesn't matter that much to me, just responding to your "Most likely the PCB..." With the actual info on their website. Built, designed, assembled, made, it's just tags. Obviously not all the parts are american made.

Clearly built to a price. No DSD not an issue for me. I’d rather play an originally mastered flac with good dynamic range than more modern remastered DSD stuff that’s had the dynamic range sucked out of it. YMMV of course

The back of the unit looks like a 10 year old wearing an eye patch was in charge of socket alignment. It looks atrocious. The ASSY wording is comical too.

Great to see Schiit continue the (new) tradition of optimizing objective performance
This is simply not OK in terms of science or not accurate enough as you don't see all their production, you see only what they want you to see. Nevertheless it's nice to see them performing better than before.

How could you possibly evaluate the entire production of any manufacturer? If so none of these reviews here are ok in "term of science". What do you mean exactly? They post measurment reports, they send samples, what more do you need?

His comment simply implies all their production is heading towards better performance, this is simply false or not accurate enough as ASR sees only what they send-in, in this particular case only a small fraction of their products range.

"Jitter performance oddly is best on Coax with USB being in the middle and Toslink bringing in the rear:"

Yes, by all means, bring in the "rear"... ?

Text dont match image info - both pics says "Toslink"...

I think you imply what you want to imply, the last Schiit product reviewed, the Freya+, was unrecommended both subjectively and objectively.
