Schiit Lokius Review (Equalizer)

sorry to semi-quasi-hemi necropost to this thread
Someone at audioasylum had a question that got me to thinkin' about the input and output impedance of the Lokius. Schiit's specs claim output Impedance: 75 ohms and input Impedance: 47K ohms. I was wondering if anyone's actually measured the input and output impedance for one of these? Doesn't look like @amirm did in his review.

Why would you doubt their spec on that ?
Why would anyone doubt any specification? ;)
Trust but verify.
I don't doubt the impedance specs per se, but it'd be nice to confirm them -- wouldn't it?

I don't have Lokius, so I tried measuring Midgard, also made by Schiit. The results were different from the specifications.

I'm in a situation where I need a device like this (actually it is perfect for my needs).

I have some Dynaudio BM5 MKIIIs I use with an SMSL RAW-MDA1 I recently got that I want to add some upper mids/low highs to based on taste and age related hearing. The HF switch on the monitors only has a +1 option and that's not enough. The system is strictly physical media based so PC or online EQ is not and will not be.

All I would need to use for the most part would be the 2/6/16kHz knobs (sparingly).

Is unit worth buying at all for that? Would it really downgrade the signal through XLR enough to where I'd even hear a difference?

Well, despite no replies I decided to order one to try out. All I need are to use the 2/6/16kHz knobs to make very slight adjustments. I really hope it doesn't disappoint...

These devices are basically tone controls.
They are not suited as equalizer. The frequency bands are waaayy too 'wide' for that.
For your purpose (adding in some treble, mids or bass to taste) they are perfectly fine and way better suited than classic tone controls and 10 to 32 band or parametric equalizers.

A fancy tone control...

I’ve had the Loki mini and Lokius. Mini good, Lokius not so good. Review with measurements here which show not great performance. Get the mini, I kept that one

The Loki mini may very well have been all I needed. The 2 & 6 kHz knobs likely would have been sufficient for my needs, but I wanted one with XLR in and outs.

Tough crowd. I’m happily un-tough however — the Lokius has proved to be a perfect sonic complement to pleasurably reinforce my somewhat aged hearing when I’m playing vinyl, CD, or cassette. A fancy tone control, as @solderdude sez, is just what I need.

Obviously digital EQ (via SoundSource on the Mac) is much more versatile and precise and fine-grained when I’m streaming or playing files through my SMSL D-6S DAC and bypassing the Lokius.

Mine arrived earlier today. Slight turns to the 2/6kHz knobs have made a huge difference in my enjoyment of my Dynaudio monitors. Turns out glorified tone controls were all I needed. I have age related hearing loss in that region that must have gotten worse since I bought these monitors two years ago, because I was completely happy with them with the HF switch on them at the +1 position for a while. Really happy with this unit and no longer looking to buy new monitors. :)
