DPLL is used to eliminate clock jitter. The DPLL value defines the bandwidth of the clock lock. The wider the bandwidth, the easier the locking. The narrower the bandwidth, the more effective the jitter removal.

Some sources (like some TVs for example) have a too high clock jitter, which can cause an inability of the PLL chip to perform its locking, resulting in a jerky sound. Increasing the DPLL can then correct this problem.

I'm sure someone else said it already, but are those rack handles? :LOL.

Neat product, lots of bang for the buck, though it's in a quagmire of other better looking products, IMHO.

Hi @amirm

Why have you recently stopped measuring output impedance?

XLR, RCA and more importantly headphone output impedance

We've seen cheating in the past here, to achieve higher SINAD numbers

It should be on your checklist of things to measure !

I've noticed all dual ES9038Q2M DACs don't have ESS IMD hump...

Interesting... Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 another example.

This appears to have a large hump;

Yes, test measurements were excellent. However, having to power cycle the unit to make a problem go away, gives concern for reliability.
We see so much great measuring gear these days, yet it seems so many companies are focused on the numbers and not quality control or reliability.
But thanks anyway Amir for the review.
Would be nice to hear from some Sabaj representative if this device is firmware upgradeable and furthermore, if the problem detected is not HW related, i.e. "FW curable"..

LoL... :p
The top performance dual DAC chip ES9038Q2M from ESS Technology.
It really doesn't seem having a hump or no hump is anything to do with dual ES9038Q2M's.

Btw. thumbs up for Apt-X HD and LDAC but I was wondering for quite some time among so many of these good performing DAC combos - would it be so hard to implement bi-directional bluetooth capability? Say you'd like to use both wired and BT headphones with this thing.

Strange question (but very important for the friend who might find this perfect) but paired with a Mac over USB-C, does the computers volume control the output volume of the device?
By default the OS controls the volume but you can and should bypass it for best sound (requires software that supports that).
