This speaker seems to be on sale at half price right now. I'm wondering, for $249, is it worth buying? Or are there better options?

I think it's a good pick at $249. Wavecor drivers tend to be quite good, and not at all cheap. If the driver integration is good, it seems like it would be a good option if one needs small and on desk.

You should definitely get them in Balck.

Thank you for your inquiry, but I should mention that I’m not a professional speaker reviewer, so I don’t think I can write an accurate description of the feelings I heard.

To put it simply: First, the build quality and overall craftsmanship of this speaker are excellent. I find it very well-balanced in all aspects, with quite good sound quality. It’s suitable for daily listening in smaller spaces. While it doesn’t have the grand, powerful presence of larger speakers, it’s not overly boisterous or noisy either.

I’m currently using it as a speaker next to my computer, for playing computer audio (like watching Netflix and YouTube). If you happen to need a pair of passive speakers, based on the current price, along with SMSL’s quality and craftsmanship, I would recommend it.

Have Klippel measurements been published?

I've seen no Klippel, but several years L7Audiolab measured the basics.

I started researching because Amazon Prime Day currently has 3 colors available for $164.30 after coupon on page, which is a good bit less than both their original $500 asking price and the cost of the individual drivers.

Big (+3dB) boost centered between 150-500 Hz and then again between 1.5kHz and 2.75kHz. I would be more concerned about the boot between 1.5kHz and 2.75kHz. Still, GREAT price for a speaker that could probably be easily fixed with a little EQ.

They arrived and I am very pleased. They are definitely a premium build all around. I temporarily placed them on stands in my apt. living room replacing HiVi DIY 2.2a. In that spot with a bit of EQ they sound excellent, with surprising bass which I believe is solid a bit under 60 Hz. I'd like to see the crossovers, I have not seen them pictured anywhere and will post them here if woofer removal is simple.
ADD: Woofer removal is simple, but the crossover is hidden behind the vertical port. The port is not straight but rather an upside down J shaped. Well made, padding on all sides. A very musical smooth sounding little speaker.
