S.M.S.L RAW-MDA1

Why not make your own purchasing decisions based on the data provided? :)

Amir's or VintageFlanker's subjective opinion will not change the performance of the device under test.
There are many who rely on Amir's review and more recently @VintageFlanker review too, to decide on their next purchase

Of course, there are data's, reviews from other Reviewers

i think further anyone who's been here for any length of time will know what the outcome already is

barring some huge design catastrophe which SMSL in the current age are not known for

they are probably slab copying past circuit designs, perhaps even using AI

its like the hamburger chef using known ingredients with known preparation equipment and set procedures

we truly know what how the sausage is made now - in this case yes, people point out the weird stuff like the QUAD digital inputs

btw. i was busted with quantites on RAW MDMA - its just the thing with kids these days

Rely on the data presented in the reviews -> good approach, within reason.

Rely on the opinions stated by the reviewers -> bad approach. That's specifically what ASR is not supposed to be.

trust your own subjective approach, the finality, right?..best approach..

I am certain that for artists in general...the essential thing is that you enjoy listening to their music ;-)

hihi

(or go to more concerts...more fun and very high fidelity in acoustic music..very ...;-) )

@staticV3 I mostly rely on the data presented in the reviews and at times on the opinions because there are few opinions that are identical or same by the Reviewers in certain situations

Multiple digital inputs! What a time to be alive! Not sure if it supports remote codes for switching directly to inputs, that would make my life so much easier. Really all I want is the ability to have the ability to switch directly to inputs and specific power on/power off options

Until this product is available, no one knows how good / bad the digital input switching is. If done right, it would not cause pop when switching between two different digital inputs - especially different sampling rate / bit depth / format. Unless there is a brief mute period, it will likely cause pop.

Only lacks 2v/4v mode... multiple digital inputs.. it's about damn time

I've got the DO300EX which is fairly similar, but doesn't have the pop when switching bit rates like the DL200 and D-6s do. Also currently have the D400, DO200 MKII, and DO300 and they fixed the problem on all those too, smooth playback when switching. I'd be willing to bet that the SMSL RAW-MDA1 doesn't have the issue either. It's got good power and connectivity.

You have a nice collection, I'm waiting for the few exotic pieces SMSLs DO200pro, RAW-MDA1 and Topping D50III, when they arrive from China. So I'm looking forward to playing around, measuring and comparing with E50 and E70 from topping.

@Dawsoo pls give your feedback here, after you finish your comparison of those Dacs

I'm considering either one of those two (Topping D50III & SMSL RAW - MDA )

TIA

What's the point in continuing to churn out a DAC every month with the same characteristics, with one more or less output or input and with different boxes?
I have thought about that too and assumed that it makes sense under a couple of assumptions.

1. Their manufacturing, sales and support works about the same if each batch they send to production is of a new/revised design vs. if they fix a design and keep it for several years and batches.

2. They want to learn what the market wants by experimenting.

3. And maybe they train staff by giving them new designs to work on.

I have no evidence for any of this. It's just speculation.

Yes, I agree: I would add that they probably have warehouses full of cards and chips, and, when they see that a product starts to sell less, they try to make up for it by throwing something new onto the market, to maintain attention.

Of course, I will be happy to give at least some basic measurements and observations. :)

is the 1/4 jack an balanced or single ended & what type is the connector next to the 1/4
On the front panel, there's a 1/4" TRS Single-ended Headphone output, and next to it a 4.4mm Pentaconn TRRRS Differential Headphone output.

4.4mm Pentaconn TRRRS Differential Headphone output ? i have no idea what that is , is that a form of balanced ?

It's an impedance-balanced, differential headphone output.

Same as 2.5mm TRRS or 4pin XLR.
