S.M.S.L PO100, PO100 PRO & PO100 AK - Measurements (Digital Interfaces & DAC)

The PO100 has got to be doing something before it sends by optical no?

Something involving clocking, perhaps - but I don't think it does any resampling in the sense of changing the sample rate, and I think that's what @Dumdum was talking about.

Happy to be corrected if I'm mistaken.

I've ordered a "2024 version" of the PO100 (non-Pro) from Aoshida on eBay. Hopefully this will work help connect my non-optical MacBook Pro or PC to my DAC as I was experiencing audio stutter when using an optical cable with a Cubilux USB adapter.

Interesting - I though the non-Pro was long discontinued.

The 2024 version is now available after a little digging

Yes, I’m just thinking that the optical will be cleaner, better clocked, less jitter than taking it straight out of the motherboard but it probably to all intents and purposes be the same signal.

Only took just over a week to get the new PO100 from China and happy to report that the new little interface has none of the issues that I experienced with the cheaper cable adapter. Now able to feed my desktop DAC (JDS Atom 2) with USB from my home PC and optical from my work Mac laptop. Will also open up options for an optical DAC/preamp (e.g. WiiM Ultra) if I choose to go that route in the future.

Device is recognized as "SMSL USB AUDIO" on my MacBook. Playback is free of stutters, though at a lower volume level than my PC, so some comparative adjustment is necessary, but well within the capabilities of my hardware. There is no output switch that I can see, meaning that you could potentially feed this into two separate DACs using the additional coax output -- for example, if I wanted to keep the JDS stack for exclusive headphone use.

Currently paired with a Monoprice Premium optical cable and the out-of-box USB-C patch cable from SMSL.

Just got mine today. Going from audiolinux machine to PO 100 Pro to Gustard X26 Pro via i2s. PCM is fine. DSD isn't working. The best I can is DSD 128 via DoP. No Native DSD support at all. Switched between mode 1 and 2 for i2s pinouts and mode. no dice. Also, the indicator light is green despite playing PCM upsampled to 16fs. it should be yellow.

Shame, but it's such a cheap unit that my disappointment is only mild. If anyone figures out how to use this with a Gustard DAC properly, do drop a line!

not sure what DoP is, but the EU seller for the PO 100 Pro told me that DSD is ONLY available through i2s, for which I don't have a device for.
Basically you are supposed to interconnect the circuit to another.
Thats why via toslink/spdif 192khz is the working limit

I just ordered a PO100 PRO to use with my D70s with I2S connection. I hope this will work with my iphone 15 pro as a source with a usb-c data cable to usb-c.

I have changed the DSD PIN to 14 on my d70s as others have mentioned. Now I only need to disable pin 16 on a HDMI cable.

Also I have no clue what UAC mode to use. Is UAC2 correct for this usage?

Will this work playing lossless audio from Apple Music on my iPhone 15 Pro?

The existing USB port on my d70s is used from my computer. Apple Music cannot play lossless from a windows machine. That is why I needed another USB interface for this purpose.

I can confirm
DSD is only available through i2s LVDS HDMI output I bought cheap chineese i2s - SPDIF converter to find out that it really works
Besides PO100 Pro is absolutely awesome

Does anyone know if the P100 or P100 Pro work to convert the USB-C output on an iOS device to SPDIF? Is a camera connector kit needed?

Is there something specific about iPhones' and iPads' USB-C outputs? I'm asking only because I have a PO100 Pro working to do just this, fed by a Mac mini via USB, converting to SPDIF output.

Hi, I am thinking to buy this PO100 2024 version too. Yet I wonder if you may kindly check and confirm if it has UAC2 function that we can change the playback volume directly on Mac?
Thank you.

Not really sure what UAC2 is, but if you're asking if I can control playback volume of a signal sent through the PO100 via the MacBook's volume +/- controls on the keyboard, then yes, that's confirmed.

Thanks for your reply! Yes that's what I mean. I am going to buy one! Cheers ;)

New version PO100 "2024" arrived in the shops, same price thankfully, but what is the difference between old vs. new?

I think it stated this was true USB C supported and XMOS316
