Hello,

Long-time ASR reader seeking advice. I want to buy a sealed 15" dual-opposed subwoofer and am struggling between the 1600 USD Hsu D15-Chimera and 3500 USD Rythmik G25HP.

Is direct servo worth a >2x price premium? Will I hear / feel a big difference between the two?

Does anyone have experience listening to both? I am less concerned with hitting sufficient output at the frequencies I want (i.e., both will get loud enough 30-60Hz after room correction cuts), and more concerned with how transients of bass lines will hear+feel. Leaning towards dual-opposed style to mitigate house rattles and large enough drivers to hit 30Hz at high SPL without massive distortion.

I primarily listen to EDM with heavy bass lines (e.g., downtempo melodic bass, ukg, dnb, tech house). Artists I’ve been listening to include Atyya, Ashez, Biishop, Chacho, Pretty Lights, TF Marz, Okiro, Mfinity, Paint Department, The Librarian, Ivy Lab, Julya Karma, NOTION, Delta Heavy, Kanine, Hedex, Cassian, ARTBAT, Agents of Time, Dimond Saints, Maddy O’Neal, the list goes on..

I will pair with Magnepan 1.7, GoldenEar Triton One.R, or Fluid Audio Image 2 monitors using either Sonarworks or Direct Live w MiniDSP (have both) for room correction. Probably will upgrade to Genelec 8361a in a few years.

Rooms will either be a 14’x11’ (ft) office, 21x20, or 23x20 large with modest treatment. Listening will vary from 80s to high 90s db with a few spikes to 105 during parties.

I am avoiding but am open to reconsidering open baffle, a stack like Tekton’s 4-6x 10” subwoofers in a tall box, single 18-21” sealed sub, or a diy large ported box tuned LOW.

Thoughts?

Do you see the fault ;)

Get 2 of these and you will never have to worry about having plenty of low distortion, low group delay, high SPL bass again. https://shop.gsgad.com/collections/...ies/products/roundover-full-marty-single-unit I assembled 2 with amplification for $2,000. Might be a little big for the small room and not sure if you have to contend with aesthetics :) I did a lot of experimenting with trying for maximum "slam" and perceived transient impact and ended up co-locating these with the mains with a relatively high crossover (little know fact is that big subs with pro drivers play higher up than small subs). This gives flat group delay, low distortion and high SPL between 20 Hz and 200 Hz (without thermal compression) which is what you need for slam / perceived transients.
