I’m using the Bacch plugin. It works fantastic through Jriver and its WMD driver. However, id like to run my cd players output though the same plugin. I know the Theoretica brand run theirs through an RME babyface to allow what I am trying to do. Is there anything to stop me from buying a similar interface and applying said plugin? Are there cheaper but just as good options?

If your CD player has SPDIF out, then you can do CD Player -> Coax to Toslink converter -> Hifime UR23 -> PC

Then in the Sound Control Panel in Windows, go to Recording->UR23->Properties and enable Listen to this device.

Make sure that in the Sound Control Panel, you match the UR23's sample rate to that of your CD Player's SPDIF output, otherwise you'll get stuttering audio.

The UR23 and Toslink converter are way cheaper than an RME interface, but enable as good or better fidelity since there are no unnecessary conversions to analog and back to digital again.

Thanks! The UDP800 actually has an optical output.

The problem I see with this solution is that i would have to manually alter the bitstream when changing between CD, DVDA, and SACD. Right?

Per the user manual:

Set the Optical output to 48K or 96K LPCM and you won't have to manually alter anything.

Though keep in mind that, according to the manual, the UDP800 will play back SACDs only via HDMI and analog out:

Good catch Static! For the UR solution this eliminates SACD playback.

My understanding is that the UDP will only apply a ceiling to the sample rate. Therefore a dvd-a might play at 48khz if i apply the lowest setting. However, despite applying that as the max sample rate in the UDP a CD will still render at 44.1 creating a mismatch, no?
