Curious what people are using instead of Roon. I don't really understand how a service that costs more than the streaming services only supports tidal and Qobuz.

In 2024, it seems absurd to not support Apple Music, YouTube music, Amazon music, etc.

I want to use Idagio, because the classical music UI is kind of terrible on Roon. It will be a pain for me to get out of the ecosystem though. Anything comparable that supports more than two streaming services? Even Sonos, which is FREE, supports literally everything.

JRiver can be used, in the sense that you can use JRiver as output of your streaming app of choice with it's soundcard driver. It's not integrated. But most players don't integrate as it's hard to mainain. Each update of a streaming service can brake the program if you fully integrate it. Roon and Sonos got the finances and staff to keep up, but most don't. They do it like JRiver, offering a sound driver that routes the audio trough their processing as the WDM, ASIO or WASAPI protocol don't change or only backwards compatible.

I have used Roon+Qobuz for years. But as of late, I have been listening to Spotify almost all the time and have not used Roon in months. I don’t miss it. I never thought I would be saying that.
Like the OP mentioned, with limited access to music services and expensive subscription, Roon can be hard to justify these days.

Foobar2000 is free and most likely can do everything you require.
Bit of a learning curve with setting it up however.

EQ-APO also can be used intermediate on Windows trough WDM for DSP part (including ISO 226 2003) to native apps as it is.

It is more on the side of the Services not providing the connectors/information they need to implement but yeah its a huge downside and why I do not use it.
I too use EQ-APO with peace GUI and that works really good.
I have a profile for my headphones and for my Loudspeakers and the remote I use to switch from one to the other on my topping DX5 dac/hp amp also switches my profile in EQ-APO by adding a cheap infrared usb adapter to my pc.

I canceled Roon and bought a WiiM. It doesn't have Apple Music but does have Spotify, Amazon, Qobuz, Tidal and various radio services, local music files . It has PEQ as well.

Music Assistant is an interesting alterenative to Roon for some use cases. It's still a bit rough around the edges but now has rudimentary Apple Music support and DSP as well as Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Airplay etc.

piCorePlayer/LMS is an option, but again you'd face the issue of no support for Amazon or Apple. It's free, though, and can run both server and player on your RPi.

Sonos supports most streaming services, but at the moment, playlists are broken.
